A little background 92 Cherokee XJ 106xxx 3k on new motor 6 inch lift stock gearing.
So I was out wheeling last week and my check engine light came on and it...
The gauge will get up to 250 before I turn on the heater. It usually only over heats on long hard pulls up a steep grade. It can drive in the city and on the freeway all day long as long as it is flat.
Ok so my 92 Cherokee 4.0 has been overheating since I bought it. I have replaced everything under the hood with no success. I finally gave up and took it to a mechanic who tells me that it is running extremely lean but can't seem to find out why. Do any of you have an idea where to start...
My Jeep has the same problems climbing up steep grades. I have replaced every cooling system part. I installed a B&M trans cooler bypassing the radiator and installed a tranny temp gauge and it still overheats. If you figure out what the problem is please let me know. I have basically given...
No I haven't checked it by IR yet I have asked everyone I know if they have one but nobody does. I am thinking I will head over to harbor freight and see if I can get a cheap one. This is something I should have done in the beginning.
Well I did the compression test here are the results:
#1 149
#2 149
#3 147
#4 149
#5 147
#6 145
The plugs were light gray with a copper tint to them. To me it looks like it may be running a little lean but I am no expert.
I didn't remove all the plugs at once I did them one at a time, but I am...
I did the block test on it and it passed. I changed the temp sensor for the gauge re flushed the radiator and I am still having the same problem. I am trying to find a good mechanic to look at it because for the life of me I can't think of anything else to do.
Any and all ideas are welcome,
Mark
When I had the radiator and grill out I used a flash light to look through the fins of the condenser and it was really clean with no blockage. With the motor running i can hold a piece of paper 6 inches in front of the grill and the fan sucks it up to the grill. I think I am getting pretty...
My XJ already has a trans cooler and the fluid is red and doesn't smell burnt. I have bought a new temp sensor I just haven't had the time to install it yet I will probably do it this weekend. The AC condenser is clean with only very few bent fins nothing that I see on it would cause a...
I have thought about that but usually when I pull over or slow down it has cooled off already. I was thinking I might buy a new gauge and see if I get the same readings.
Ok so I replaced Everything under the hood that I can think of and it is still overheating. Can anyone think of anything else that could be wrong with it. I can't afford much more but I need a running vehicle. I am really hoping it isn't the head. Here is what I installed on Saturday.

I need your help, I recently bought a 92 XJ Limited that has 97k on it. I have noticed that the engine temperature gets close if not into the red range when I am on the freeway and on a steep grade for a long period of time. Then engine temp is normal when driving around town or on flat...
