Where is the tcu located? The old tranny drove and shifted fine just no reverse. I did nothing but swap transmissions. The 98 has the sensor it came with I just cut and spliced the old wiring harness into the new one. There is another sensor on the front of the franny towards the bellhousing...
It acts like its stuck in first gear. Never shifts no matter what rpm. I have the old tranny with all the stuff except the wiring and pulse rev magnet. I cut the wiring to splice in the 98 part. I have looked at the copy I was sent and it wouldn't be to hard but I'm not much of a solderer.
Just an update I pulled the fuse and I can drive it if I shift it. So not sure what that means. I know it makes it like a manual but at least the tranny works. Does that mean the tailshaft sensor is bad? I know lawsoncl said that it should be shifting with the wrong sensor but just early but it...
I just went thru my email and it was in the spam box. Glad you told me. I am now in the head scratching deer in the head light look phase. But im off to work so I will decipher it more tomorrow. Thank you
What exactly is the cable called? I have tried a search for kickdown cable and transmission line pressure cable. Looking at the cable it loos like a bicycle brake cable. I could just cut the old one out and run a new cable. I can get the crimps from a local hardware store.
oh well this one is frayed so ill order a new one and change it out and see if that helps. But i'll still need that diagram if you still have it. Thanks for your help.
I sure would. I sent you a pm. It just acts like its stuck in low gear. I know the kickdown cable is frayed but I disconnected it as I read that it may be causing the problem and it had no effect. I do know that when I was trying to pull of the plug of the speed sensor the wires pulled out...
lol. I know I broke the cardinal rule and tossed the little elec piece, it just happened to be trash day when I wrapped up. DUMB DUMB DUMB. I still have the old tranny. I tried the link for the diagram on the first page but get a 404 error. If anyone has it please let me know. I can handle...
Another not. I used the 1994 harness and just cut and spliced the two wires that go to the speed output sensor. I plugged in the shift solenoids from the 1994 harness to the 1998. I assume (we all know the problems with assumptions) that I need to do something with the speed output? Like I said...
So forgive me I am new to the world of xj. I currently acquired a 1994 with a bad tranny. I swapped in a 1998. Everything looked the same except the little piece at the tailhousing. So i cut the wiring and spliced it in figured done. But then when I drove the vehicle it wont shift. Asking around...
I pulled the valve body apart and cleaned everything. Replaced it, pan and oil. And same thing. I was poking around in there with the valve body out and the clutches didnt seem frozen together. Oh well off to PNP to fine a new tranny.
hmm so no thoughts on the matter? Well I thank you for taking the time to read. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Maybe I'll just swap in my AX-15 that came from my jeep. Doubt my daughter will like a stick shift though.
SO I am new to the world of XJs. I have a few jeep rockcrawlers and bought an 1994 XJ for my daughter. It had a tranny issue and was a smokin deal so I jumped on it. Figured to just replace the tranny but boy are those things pricy new and I wanted to get a few answers first before just swaping...
