    What's It Worth

Thanks! That's what I figured, around $1000.00 - I just wanted to make sure I wasn't ripping myself off or asking too much.

    What's It Worth

I have a 91 "Briarwood" with 250,000+ miles. It runs fine, but has rust on the rockers and behind the rear wheels. It has the overhead console, leather interior, full gage cluster, 242, A/T, AC, PW, PL, good tires, etc., etc. Everything works except for the cruise control. It's time to sell it...

    Thermostat Question

Is there a difference between thermostats in H/O engines? The reason I ask is the engine is my XJ is a replacement and I don't know what year it came from. In checking eBay for thermostats I saw some guy listing t-stats for 94 - 95 4.0's. Are they different than the other years? I'd like to...

    sometimes i hate my dog...........

I had a yellow Lab that was so afraid of thunder she once jumped through a plate glass door to get inside. She could hear a storm long before I ever could and would do whatever it took to get inside. The tranquilizers the vet prescribed didn't touch her once the storm started. I thought about...

    87 chero

Select Trac switch? Do you mean there is a switch in front of the shifter? Or is there just the handle to the left of the shifter? If there is a switch in front of the shifter, and it has a V6, I would really suspect it's NOT an '87. Check the plate on the drivers side door post. It will show...

    XJs in Beijing, China

OK, let's smuggle one over. I'll take the nose, JEEPZZ can have the tailights and you can have the interior! (A perfect plan except for the smuggling part...)

The nose on that thing looks pretty slick, too!

    Todays Punk Rock Song!

Must have been in the late seventies... They used to put some of the strangest artists together... I saw rapper Kurtis Blow open for The Clash, some awful punk band called the "A's" open for Peter Tosh... I'm amazed there weren't riots!

    Oil Pressure Problem...

No, what I was refering to was earlier posts that said it would be best to use a 10/30 or 10/40 instead of the 5/30 that's been used in the engine. Once I do the bearings, I'll probably go with the heavier oil.

    Oil Pressure Problem...

You're right. I'm just not looking forward to a weekend under the Jeep. Oh well.

    Oil Pressure Problem...

I will now. The engine was out of a '91 owned by a friend of mine. He bought it in 1995. He had been using 5/30 synth-oil in it for years, so I just continued to do the same.

    Oil Pressure Problem...

What I meant was the engine had around 87,000 miles on it when I put it in (last summer), I've put another 13,000 or so on it, so it has around 100,000 miles total on it. It's been my experience that 100,000 miles on a 4.0 is still "low milage". (A 1990 I once owned had 210,000 on the original...

    Oil Pressure Problem...

This is all helpful stuff, but it leads me to another question... The engine in an XJ with the AW4 is only doing around 2000 RPMs at 65 MPH. If Chrysler states that the vehicle should have 40lbs of oil pressure at 3000 RPM, is it acceptable for it to be 5 - 10 lbs lower at 2000 RPMs? Is there...

    Oil Pressure Problem...

Thanks to all! I'll change the oil this weekend and use 10/40, see what happens. Hopefully I'm not looking at bearings.

    Oil Pressure Problem...

I have a 1991 4.0 - 232,000 miles on the vehicle, around 100,000 miles on the engine (bought used with around 87,000 on it). When I start it up the oil pressure is around 50lbs. As I drive, it drops, to the point where I'm only at around 15 - 25lbs at 65 MPH on the highway. Coolant temp is a...

    AMC vs. Chrysler?

I just replaced my stolen '87 Cherokee Wagoneer with a '91 Briarwood (Nope, I don't have a thing for fake wood, it was just the best vehicle out of all the ones I looked at). It's my 5th XJ, but except for a V6 I owned in the mid-eighties, it will be my first non-Renix XJ. Is there anything...

    Attn: Western Massachusetts

The police recovered my Jeep yesterday. It ain't pretty. It looks like the little f*#kers took it 4-wheeling in the woods and didn't miss a tree. I'll probably get it out of the impound lot Monday or Tuesday, have it towed to my house. After I look it over, I'll either part it out or sell the...

    Attn: Western Massachusetts

No visible mods. It's in very nice condition. Factory wheels. The only unique thing on the outside of the vehicle is a 6" sticker next to the plate... It's a 4 leaf clover inside a triangle (called a "quadrifoglio"... It's the Alfa Romeo racing symbol. I used to run a couple of Alfas). Thanks!!

    Attn: Western Massachusetts

Anyone in Western Massachusetts - Yesterday, Jan. 31, someone stole my 87 Cherokee / Wagoneer from a parking lot in Westfield, MA. It's a 4.0, brown (I think they called it "Desert Sand") with woodgrain on the sides. Plate # is 8776 CV. It's not worth a whole lot of money, but it's been a great...

    Odd idle problem

I had the same problem in my 87 4.0 - It turned out that the throttle cable was sticking. I lubed the hell out of it and the problem went away.
