    Rough Country Front Bumper

Virtually new bumper w/ recess for winch. Put this on my '99 XJ in December, then found and bought an '01 that was already set up. Located in Beaufort, SC. Cash and carry, $300/BO. 843-379-2093

    99 Cherokee Sport 4x4

Green '99 4-door, 4x4, 183K miles. AT, AM/FM/cassette, old air, hot heat. New front brakes in December, front differential replaced by Jeep dealer with rebuilt unit. Over $2K spent on repairs, then found '01 all set up. Wife says this one has to go. Windshield cracked, channel needs clean...

    Choosing Tires

The 31" BFG mudders on the 01 (lifted 3 1/2") I just bought are somewhat less than economical for general use. I am getting about 15 mpg, where I got 20 highway in my 99 with stock rubber. Most of my driving will be on pavement, but I need traction on dirt and gravel for hunting. I am not...

    Junkyards around Eastern NC?

I've got a '99 that needs a windshield (rust around pillars, more than I want to fix) that I am thinking of selling....Located in Beaufort SC.

    Did it again...

Ah, so desu ka. I see your point. Guess I'd better save for a rear bumper/spare rack. Any thoughts on which is best?

    Did it again...

Got to save space in back for my copilot, Maddy. She's a 4-year-old black Lab. Also guns, tackle boxes, etc. I was going to go with a carrier but they are very pricey. Back home in ME, the roof carriers are more popular. Pix as soon as I find where the camera got packed during the move south.

    Did it again...

Bit the bullet and bought another XJ despite my bad luck with my first. This one is an 01 with a few add-ons. It has a 3.5" Rough Country lift, 10.5x31 BFG Mud Terrains on 15" aluminum rims, and a Smittybilt winch/bumper up front. Only 112K miles and clean inside & out. Now I need a safari...

    Easy mods?

If 1999s are indeed better than 2000s and 2001s, is it reasonably easy for someone with no experience or an extensive shop to retrofit specific '99 parts, e.g. axles, head, ignition, to the newer vehicles as needed? I have a '99 with body issues that I plan to replace. I don't want to paint...

    Cherokee's BEST Year?

Replacing my 99 Cherokee, which has more problems than Job. My inclination is to get another 99 and use the old one for parts. Just thought I might poll you more experienced folks and see what you think of 99s versus other years.

What mpg is everyone getting w/an auto xj?

Before the front diff blew up, I was getting 20-24 mpg in my 99 auto. Actual figure varied tank-to-tank according to how much highway, and how hard I pushed.

    Pull the plug?

Got what may be the final bad news on my hard-luck 99: body shop says the rust has spread from around the windshield through much of the roof. They want to replace the whole top -- for about $3K. Seems to me that I may be at the point where I chalk this one up to experience, part out the POS...

    Hard luck story

Thanks for the support and the good advice, and, yes, I will get in touch when I am back in SC. Right now I am recovering from cataract surgery in ME. At least I'll be able to read the signs on 95 when I head south again. Last time I turned a wrench was before onboard computers. I bought a...

    Hard luck story

OK, so I bought a 99 Cherokee Sport. My first. I chose it in part because they are affordable to buy, and they are supposed to be simple, tough, and fun. Seemed to be in good shape for 177K miles, with no visible rust, strong engine, clean interior. Drove it around Maine a bit, then took it...

    First XJ

Just bought my first Cherokee, a '99 Sport with 177k. Looks to be in pretty good condition overall, especially for Maine. But the last time I turned a wrench I was just a kid, 40 years ago. I don't know Jeeps. Hell, I don't know anything any more. This is going to be my hunting/fishing...
