    Axle Swap Advice

I think a 30/8.8 is good for 35's. Any more than that, and you need bigger. Use case helps too. Rocks, lockers, wedges, ledges? 35's max. Mud, dirt roads, 37's might work for ya. I think @CRASH made a thread titled "axles for rocks" 20 years ago with a lot of relevant advice and some...

aw4, is this the original pan seal?

Swapping a transmission isn't bad. Get an E12 inverted torx socket, and some 3' long extensions. I pull the t-case off first because it weights the whole assembly funky off to one side if you don't.

Info on a different xj group

I have not, but I have seen scammers start to create legitimate looking Facebook groups and try to get people to join them.

    Again.....what is a "REAL XJ"?

I destroyed my 92 on 33" tires. Went 35's, went 37s, went buggy. Now have a '97 full body on 33's, heading to Moab in May, and after 21 years, finally understand the first post in this thread.

    Dana 30 arb locker question.

The distance between the ring gear mounting flange and the pinion is the difference. There were some companies claiming to make "Thick" cut gears for the HP D30 a number of years ago, but not that I've seen in a while. Some folks have run a ring gear spacer to make up the difference, but then...

    Transfer case?

I think the 904's were 23 spline, "short" input, so a 242 with that, and a checkbook for druveshafts from your favorite vendor ought to do nicely.

    Ford 9" axle seals....

I usually end up cutting off the wedding ring that holds the seal and bearings on with a cut off wheel to get really close to the shaft then a chisel to split that open enough to slide off. Definitely start with a pair of $20 Amazon dial calipers and measure bearing pocket ID, and the size of...

I bought a 97 cherokee witga blown head gasket. Tossed a 'spare' motor I had lying around in it. Runs good. Next mod - buying a dedicated car seat for my 15 month old (swapping back and forth sucks) then time to drive some fire roads

Can't get good brakes on my 1ton xj

How does the pedal feel? If it's long throw and squishy, then you need a bigger bore MC. If it's really firm and short throw then you need a smaller bore MC.

MJ ? in XJ modified section

The 84-86 would have been an I-4 or a 2.8l V6 from the factory, and some comment that the firewall changed in 87 for the longer I-6 and forward. If it's already got a 4.2L, then that complication has already been customized. I'd be more concerned about how they got the 4.2 in there and...
