    Tick, Tick, Miss

I have an intermittant problem with a "lifter type" sound coming from my engine. When it does 'tap', it also feels & sounds like it's missing. Then, just as fast as it started... it goes away and runs fine. Then wiyh in a few minutes it starts over again. Is it possible that it could be a...

    Fuel Injector Part # Help

I just changed my fuel injectors. I was having an intermittant problem with one of the old ones. I picked up a known good set locally. They are out of a '95 4.0. I put them in my '93 4.0. The Chrysler part numbers are: 1993 (white plastic plug area) #53030343 removed. 1995 (orange plastic plug...

    for the high milers with a 4.0 - a Q

Mine has 275K on it and when I got it, it had 225K on it. Yes mine is VERY noisy. But mine does it cold. Once it gets nice and warmed up (the oil not just the water temp). It is quiet as a brand new motor. I believe it is piston slap. It has had something that sounds like a lifter happen now...

    shifting OUT of 4wd?

I have a different year XJ but, I was told that after shifting out of 4WD to make sure it is disengaged, stop, back-up a couple feet, then drive on. It works for me, but I have a different transfercase.

    Flooded with EFI?

It's a '93. Michigan... below freezing. Restarted within a minute or less. I am trying to get my signature to work!

    Flooded with EFI?

I have cold started my XJ and had to turn it off just there after for one reason or another. When I go to restart it acts flooded. I have to floor it to get it to start. Once started I need to pedal the accelerator to clear the fouled out plugs. Once that is done, it runs fine. But I know...

    Where you get your champions?

10 yrs ago I worked at the now defunct Autoworks. We sold the plugs there. The only thing I saw was the truck plugs looked prettier. Theyre supposed to be more durable, what ever that means. I go with the regular Champions. They're inexpensive and since they're easy to change I do it about...

    Where's the Torque?

Has anyone else found this to be true... about the O2 sensor etc. Sorry Jeep914X4.

Axle is bashing oil Pan! Ever seen this on an unlifted jeep?

Is there a part number on the pan? Maybe the wrong pan! It happens duing regular driving? Are the bumpstops still there? Are your springs shot?

    Mystery oil or no??

I've used MMO, Lucas, Amsoil, Rislone(sp?) and several others (stp etc.) Tranny fluid/oil flush. Kerosene/oil flush. Amsoil full synthetic oil to WalMarts house brand oil and filters. Casite $1.99 filters, Fram and K&N. My XJ has close to 275K on it and rattles the same either way. I must say...

    Lifter Noise?

I get a "lifter type" noise engine cold or hot, but it's intermittant. At an idle it will be doing it, then suddenly stop, then start again. Sometimes it feels like it could be missing too. Strange thing is, when it's making the noise, I will shut off the motor and turn it rite back on and it's...

    door sag/separation, welding question

I put a plate and bolt thru the hinge. I didn't need to remove the door, but it was really tricky getting a nut on there. Once I tightened everything up, then I put a weld on the back of the hinge with my stick welder. The door checks no longer worked on my XJ. I had an old broken nylon...

    Where's the Torque?

The cat was the problem. There was a "ball" shaped piece of the brick in there a little bigger than a fist. I think when the flow got high enough the ball would roll to the output and work like a check valve! All is well now! Thanks ALL!

    Where's the Torque?

I think I'm gonna do an "exploratory surgery" on my cat converter tomorrow... with my Saws-All, weather permitting. I'll let you know of my findings. Thanks

    Where's the Torque?

I have not had the distributor out. The cat is rattling real bad but I've had that happen on another jeep I owned. I was told it is a "loose cone". Maybe, when we get a break in the weather here, I will "remove and discard" it. (shhhhhh, don't tell anyone).

    Where's the Torque?

I have a problem with my 93 XJ, that someone here could maybe shed some light on. When driving/accelerating the the engine will not exceed 3500 to 4000 rpm! I can acclerate upto the RPM and then it just loses power. No stall, no sputter, no backfire, just flat... no power, like a rev limiter...

    Oil Slinger?

I just finished replacing the timing chain and gears and noticed that the Haynes Manual shows an "oil slinger" sits infront of the crankshaft gear. Wasn't one on there when I took it apart!!! Checked in the oil pan too!!! Do they all have these slingers? The gasket that the timiing chain cover...

    '95 dist. in a '94

    On a 2.5L, will the distributor from a '95 work on a '94? TIA

    Something broke

The timing cain snapped! I've never seen that before! But I've never seen a timing chain that was such junk! It was smaller than a bicycle chain! Is the timing chain in a 4.0L the same? I hope not!
