I had a metallic scraping noise coming from my right rear brake. Found it to be the brake adjusting pawl contacting the drum. Cut off the bottom of the pawl to match pictures I brought up on the web. Now that noise is gone I have a new noise and it only seems to happen going forward. It...
Can you replace the power brake booster without completely removing the brake master cylinder. That is can you leave the brake lines connected to the master cylinder, then remove the brake master cylinder from the booster, then remove and replace the booster, reattach the master cylinder.
Background to problem:
Was driving and brake warning light came on. Got home parked the Jeep in our pole barn. Checked it the next morning and noticed brake fluid on the ground on the left rear tire. Pulled the tire and hub and found the wheel cylinder to be bad. In trying to remove it do to...
Had a rear wheel cylinder fail causing loss of all fluid and setting my brake error light on my dash. Replaced the wheel cylinder, filled the master cylinder and power vacuum bled the rear wheel cylinders. Vehicle has good braking in both forward and reverse directions. First time brake pedal...

Trying to adjust my toe in /out. I've sprayed to tie rod ends and the bars where they screw in with PB Blaster for 2 days prior to starting. I can not get the tie rod bar to adjust. Both tie rod ends seem to be well rusted into the bar. Any suggestions to how to free these tie rod ends. I...
Do the bolts holding the brackets usually come out without breaking, stripping or braking the captive nuts loose? Any secrets I should be aware of? I need to loosen the sway bar brackets to install a front receiver hitch.
Thanks,

Occasionally when I'm pulling into a parking space and turning tightly the front end seems to crab walk. Doesn't do it all the time, feels like the axles are locking and unlocking or binding and unbinding. Don't notice this when I'm driving on the highway or making normal turns.
Does anybody know what size allen wrench the caliper pins take. I want to take mine out to grease them, but none of the SAE or Metric allen wrenches I have fit well. I'm wondering if someone before me messed up the caliper pins and I might have to resort to non conventional means to remove...
Noticed this week that the end of my drag link that attaches to the steering knuckle had a whole lot of play in it. Picked up a new one and decided to change it out. 1st problem, the drag link end at the knuckle spins if you try to remove the nut. The nut plus the shaft spins! Any ideas on...
Seeing as very few if any shops turn brake drums any more and the ones that do want an arm and a leg, I was wondering if any of you have removed the ridge at home yourself. If you did do it yourself how did you do it? What tools and or supplies did you use. What precautions did you take from...
Does any one know what size and thread dimensions are for the bolt that you need to remove in order to remove the cross pin so that you can remove the C clips to remove the axles.
Thanks,

On my dirt driveway applying my brakes causes my left rear tire to dig a trench into the dirt, the other three wheels stop normally. On the asphalt breaking cause the vehicle to pull to the left. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem is and what to look for?
Thanks,
Bill
Thinking about taking a used pair of unit bearing hubs that I took off and modifying them. Pressed one apart, basically a cylinder with 2 plastic ball bearing race ways, that hold two inner tubes, one splined for the axle. Thinking of drilling into the side of the hub, threading it an...
What is the secret to getting the old fuel tank strap out and the new one into the rear cross member by the rear bumper without dropping the fuel tank.

What is the best and safest way to remove the bolt that holds the cross pin in the differential housing. I've heard it's easy to snap them and definitely don't want to do that. If it does snap what is the best way to remove the broken part.
Thanks,
Bill
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited with the 4.0L, automatic transmission and the Selc-Trac transfer case. I have regular power brakes, no ABS, and my current front axle shafts have u-joints in them. While surfing the Internet I came across front axles made by GPS. For the front axle they list...
Is the track bar nut on the front axle welded to the bracket? If you snap the bolt what is the best way to get the nut off? If you can't get the nut off what are your options?
