My bad, I now know where the pressure sending unit is in relation to the oil filter. The FSM was unclear as to the sending unit location in the lubrication flow diagram. My apology for wasting the Forum's time.
Would still like to hear from others, presuming the thread isn't closed due to my...
I started the thread, why should I move on. R u a mod, telling me to move on? Why?
I would like to hear more info from others. It just seems to me that finer filter media with more pleats would lower pressure on the back side of the media, where the sending unit is located.
Let me rephrase the question......why/how would 2 new but different brands of oil filters change oil pressure? Let's presume the motor is in top notch condition, same brand/weight oil used, oil at operating temp, no bypasses open, everything remains the same except for the 2 different oil...
Really? There's a best filter......that sounds like a highly subjective opinion, no?
If everything else remained the same, only difference is changed the brand of oil filter, why would there be deeper issues if the pressure changed?
That's good to know, thanks. It seems like the "good" filters advertise they will filter out smaller particles, which seems like a finer filter media would be used to trap the smaller particles, which seems like a finer filter media would reduce reduce pressure somewhat on the media backside...
Don't have a gauge......just trying to find out if the oil filter (as in changing brands) can affect oil pressure, presuming the filter is not clogged and everything else is all equal.
This pic shows "closed loop" on our '98 OBD-II XJ at 94F coolant temp, when I snapped the pic. It went into "closed loop" well before 94F.

I suspect something wrong with your temp gauge. The XJ cooling system is not big enough to run much less than 200F this time of year. What are your outside temps? We run a 180F t-stat winter/summer in our '98 XJ and gas mileage/performance is fine. Ours will run 180 in the winter but again, not...
Air, as well as hot coolant, will flow out of the rad and into the overflow bottle ONLY IF the outermost valve in the rad cap is functioning correctly. If the inner most valve in the rad cap malfunctions, coolant in the bottle will not flow back to the rad (as it cools) thus causing a low...
