Looks alot like a Rocksolid bumper with the highlift cut outs on the front. Speaking of which you say you have some at the shop John. Any chance I could do a little copy infringement and make a stencil of those cut outs? I asked AJ to put some on my bumper but he couldn't quite get it to look...

Picked up a plate style from the junkyard. Out of a newer Grand Cherokee with a tow package. I think it was stock. $20 and it's about 10"x12" .

I happen to have two 96's in my driveway and they have both been very reliable. Last of the old body style. Parts are all over the place. I also have a 2000 in the driveway and have not dealt with the head issue YET! I will, now that I've opened my mouth. One thing to remember as time goes on...

Had the same on my kids 2000xj. Swaped out the Trans control module. No more code. Found one for $15. I think yours is the same, drivers side foot well above the gas pedal. maybe check the plug?
