Brake and dash lights flash with turn signal

Fixed! The light issue was a single LED reversed. Flipped it and they all worked fine, including the dash. The engine running bad was a bad coil with the K-Suspension kit. That one took a long time to figure out. Cleaned and sanded ALL the grounds, swapped back to the old injectors, checked...

Brake and dash lights flash with turn signal

FYI this is on a 2001 XJ This morning I tried swapping back to the factory flasher relay. Not enough load I'm guessing and the lights don't flash at all. Went up to O'Reilly's and bought 4ga cables, replaced grounds (batt/fender, batt/block, block/firewall) and the positives (batt/PC, PC/Alt...

Brake and dash lights flash with turn signal

Today I installed a K Suspension headlight wire harness; if you are not familiar with this it is a parallel harness that uses the old headlight plug to trigger a new relay so it pulls power right from the battery for brighter lights. I also replaced all bulbs with LED and swapped to an...

    Trailer Brake Controller for XJ

Does anyone have any recommendations for a low profile/simple trailer brake controller to put in our XJs? It's a 2001 and did not come with a tow package and is currently wired with a 4 pin. So I know I will have to upgrade to a 7 pin. I would like something low profile since so many bolt to...

    Heavy Steering

While at the JY looking for an A/C compressor I decided to try out the WJ pump I read some people talk about. There is no difference at all in the weight of the steering and now the pump whines like crazy. Fluid looks alright, I don't think it's from air. Frustrating. No Durangos at the local...

    Axle shims at stock height????

I did do the rear U-joint when I did the springs and brakes, but I did not do the forward u-joint. A trip too Ikea with the wife yesterday helped to break in the springs. Loaded the Jeep up with about 700# of boxes and stuff. 3 flat and 1 regular carts! Still can't believe we got it all to fit...

    Heavy Steering

Everything is greased up well and I am not seeing excess play in anything. Perhaps it is the PS pump. When I first bought this Jeep last month the PS fluid looked horrible, like chocolate milk. I sucked all the fluid out and replaced it. Drove it for a bit and repeated. Looks normal now, but I...

    Axle shims at stock height????

I know shims sound like modification, but this is about a factory setup. I recently replaced the springs on an XJ I bought last month with Dorman heavy duty leafs and Moog replacement coils. At the same time I replaced the lifted shackle with a factory replacement and all new shocks. It sits...

    Oil Pressure reading

Agree with Down Under, the passage to the oil pressure sensor is small and curved, it can easily get clogged with sludge. You can use a pipe cleaner soaked in kerosene to clean it out. Also try Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. I had a truck once with low pressure. Put about half a quart of...

    Heavy Steering

How heavy does your steering feel? I owned a 98' for a decade but it has been gone for about 5 years now. Since then I have had Subaru's, my wife's Honda and an F150 that was over assisted. The steering on this new to me 01' XJ feels very heavy, enough that I can not easily steer with one hand...

Blower fan only works on high?

I would agree with blu3fan, try to go back to stock if it isn't destroyed and replace the blower resistor. I had to change mine recently because I had high and low, but nothing in-between. If you are not familiar the resistor is behind the glove box and is mounted in the duct work.

    New stock height suspension

Got the Dorman leaf springs and Moog coils in with new factory shackles and I measure 19" center of hub to fender front and rear. A bit higher than I expected but it rides alright so I will see how it settles over the next month. I had the 2" OME lift on my 98' XJ and loved it. It road nice...

Best shock options for stock XJ?

Gabriel Max Control shocks they have the same specs as the Bilstein but about 3/4 the price. I have had them on a couple rigs over the years, from an 98' XJ, Ford Ranger and S10 Blazer and they performed well. Never had a problem with them and that includes on winding mountain roads, old town...

    Cigar Relay Won't Stop Cycling

Bought a different factory radio from the junk yard and it works fine. So something must have been wrong with the first one. Thanks for the reply.

    Factory Leaf Spring Bolt Size

So the captured nut on the leaf to frame and upper shackle to frame are the 14mm, but any through bolt with a nut you run standard is what you are saying?

    New stock height suspension

Ummm, what's the deal? I am posting the exact same way I do on other forums over the years. And why can't I edit the post when it goes wrong. This is very frustrating.

    New stock height suspension

Attempt #2, this time on the computer instead of the phone. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] This is how tire the factory springs are. Previous owner put 2" shackles on it and it sits at 18" in the rear (hub to fender) [/IMG]

    Factory Leaf Spring Bolt Size

I am having some confusion on what size the front leaf to frame bolt is. I am finding part numbers referencing M14-2.0x120mm but various parts suppliers are listing 9/16" or 5/8" bolts. I know these are all similar size bolts but length and thread pitch are very important. I want to make sure I...

    E-fan schematic?

Bajabronco and Heavyopp, thanks for checking your fans. Guess I just remember wrong. I will definitely be rewiring the fan to be on a switch or at least at a lower temp. As warm as these engines run in the small engine bays of the XJ I was really surprised to see that they have 2 cats...

    New stock height suspension

I got the springs yesterday and was surprised by what I got. They are the same part number but were made in two different countries, Mexico and Columbia. You can see that the Columbia product seems to be of better quality. The Mexico springs taper to a thinner edge and are cut square instead...
