The idle is good, the problems start at around 1000-2000rpm, it will smooth out above 2000. Have not tried driving it to see how it acts on the road. I traded for a couple weeks ago, and I'm trying to de"bug" it.
Thanks
I have a 90 4.0 xj that has a really bad flat spot in the throttle. When you give it gas it hesitate, sometimes it will stall, it will also backfire a little through the throttle body. I cleaned the throttle body over the weekend and the iac. Did not make any difference. If the map sensor vacumn...
I checked the jeep out a little tonight(quick glance under the hood) someone
pretty much eliminated all the pcv system, plus no air filter. Also it needs a harmonic balancer. The guys who had this before me installed a high volume oil pump to try and cure a low oil pressure problem(right now...
I just picked up a 90 4.0 xj. It does not idle well, (it idles at about 200rpm)
When you give it gas it hesitates real bad and smokes a bit out the tail pipe.
Any ideas on my limited amount of info?
Thanks for any input

I have a 20 cu.ft. one from sears. Its already assembled, they will install it for free, its easy to remove/reinstall. I think it usually runs around 160.00
I have a 89 xj I 'm wanting to lift, but I'm on a REAL tight budget. I would like to get around 3 inches of lift. My main reason for posting is about shocks.
Will shocks off of a '97 and up ford explorer work on a xj? They mount the same way on the front and I think they mount the same on the...
Thanks for all the info. I looked at the throttle body tonight, and it looked pretty gunked up. I imagine the iac is probably the same. Going give it all a thorough cleaning tomorrow after work and see what happens.
thanks again everyone.

Over the past day my 89 xj 4.0 has been idling weird. When I left work yesterday and started it up it reved to like almost 3000rpm. I put it in gear and it stayed idled at around 1400 in gear. Normally in gear its around 700.
By the time I got to my house it was back to normal, but it kinda...
I agree with Eagle. I just purchased the reese from wal-mart for my 89. I needed a hitch asap and that was the best I could do. If I could back in time and change it would. First, it does not fit like the instructions show, I had to drill a couple of extra holes, my instructions showed these...
Thanks for all the info. I was hoping to have this done this weekend, my local
napa closed at around 12 today( while I was at work). I picked up a universal
converter at advance and I'm gonna see how that goes. Some one in previous years has been in it and hacked the wiring on the drivers side...
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I cant find exactly what I'm looking for. I have an 89 xj that I installed a hitch on to to pull my utility trailer with. Is there anything special I need to do to wire the jeep to my trailer? I've saw taillight converters and other things listed on...
I have a 89 xj with the np231 t/c and aw4 trans. I had posted a couple of weeks ago about a grinding when shifting from n to 4hi. The problem I seem to have now is I can not shift the t/c unless I shift the transmission to neutral, which I know is bad because it makes some very unfriendly...
I have a 89 Cherokee Laredo with the NP231 transfer case. I have only owned it for a couple of weeks, in this time I have not driven it, I was doing various repairs one of which was the replacemnt of the hub assembly on the right side. I drove it for the first time yesterday around my backyard...
As Eagle stated above, Mercedes still requires the spring loaded bar to set the toe angle properly.
I have been performing alignment service for nearly 14 years and have never solved a vibration problem with an alignment. It is almost always wheel balance.
I agree with bottleworks. If you have access to a set of manifold gauges, I would check my pressure before shooting in some freon, Or at the very least
check to see if the clutch is engaged on the compressor, if it is take a peak at the sight glass on the drier to see if it has air bubbles or...
I noticed on the balancer that there is a rubber piece starting to stick out from the front. I'm guessing this sort of isolater between the two pieces of the balancer which I think would indicate that its toast, as you mentioned above.
Thanks for the info!
I just purcahsed an 89 xj 4.0. I noticed the belt was kinda frayed along one edge. I picked one up and put it on. As soon as I start the engine the belt will "walk" over one grove on the harmonic balancer towards the engine. I know the water pump has been replaced, but it looks like it may not...
