engine is slugish after tune up

Perhaps the engine is now lost its timing. I would suggest checking the timing with a timing light to see if it remains in spec. If that is not the problem then I suggest popping off the cap and checking for carbon build up. Also, pop out a plug to see if they are fouled at all.

OFF Topic - Looking for classic CJ lovers.

I love the 'old iron'. I would never restore one to be used as a show vehicle though. I'd be using that sucker as much as I could. I love the CJ 2A's and the 3A's and hope to own one soon.

What brand of tools do you use?

Ok. I am an industrial mechanic by trade so being hard on tools comes with the territory. I have never been brand loyal so I have alot of different stuff from alot of different manufacturers. Snap-on and Mac are not worth the money IMHO. They are a great tool manufacturer and make high...

    4wd engagement in a 92 XJ

I think 4wd will engage when you are stuck as you try to rock the truck back and forth attempting to extricate yourself. The couple of times I have had to shift into 4wd when stuck, the t-case always seemed to engage 4wd just as I was getting on the throttle or when I was getting off the...

    4wd engagement in a 92 XJ

Ok...I just answered my own question here. This is something that I found on another site... UNIT INSTALLATION AND TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE NEW VENTURE 242 TRANSFER CASE IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Before attempting any diagnostic work or trouble shooting on the transfer cases...

    4wd engagement in a 92 XJ

I have looked at the axle. I've looked long and hard for some sort of vacuum disconnect system on the front of my jeep. It isn't there. Could the T-case itself be the issue here? I mean, is there some sort of electronic engagement device similar to what the Chevy trucks have? Its almost...

    4wd engagement in a 92 XJ

What difference would the condition of the oil in the t case have to do with anything? If it is a mechanical linkage, and the lever actually moves into the desired position when engaging 4wd, you should be in 4wd as soon as you put the lever into 4wd mode. Let me clarify. I don't have a...

    4wd engagement in a 92 XJ

Ok, I was under the impression that Chrysler did away with the vacuum disco system in 91. I thought all models from 92 up had no vacuum disconnects. I don't have vacuum discos on my 92. I have the 242 x-fer case as well. My XJ is definetly ACTING like it has vacuum disconnects. It takes a...

    4wd engagement in a 92 XJ

Ok.. I realise that the 92 XJ's did away with the vacuum disconnect system to engage the front axle when shifting into 4wd. I am wondering what system took its place? Is the axle always engaged? Does the front axle now act like a normal axle with the hubs locked all the time? The reason I am...

    speedometer delay at start

Not sure if this will help you, but my XJ speedo STARTS at 20 kph. There is no zero on the dial at all. I have to be going at least 20 kph before it will indicate speed at all. Maybe its a Canadian XJ thing.

Kinda a noob question: Fuel filter??

Hey guys. Is there an external, inline fuel filter on 4.0L XJ's? I am gearing up for a tune up and I would like to change what I can to help my XJ run a bit better. Where would this fuel filter be located if there is one?

    toggle switch dash lights.

Hey folks. Like alot of you guys, my XJ has those 4 toggle switches just below the steering colum for rear defrost, rear wiper, tranny power/comfort, and fog lights. Anyway, one of the lights that lights up when the headlights are on seems to be burnt out behind the rear defrost switch. How...

Low Wash Light won't go off

Fram: I believe that you will find that your washer tank holds more than 2 litres. It is actually somewhere around 4 litres. I just filled up my tank last night and it was bone dry and took 1 full jug which = 4 litres.

    Rear hatch rattles

I am taking my solution to this problem a step further than adjusting the bumpers and the striker. I plan on installing a set of rubber latches that will physically hold the hatch closed from the outside. The latches are similar to those found on semi-trucks used to hold their hoods closed. I...

    Does your rear hatch rattle?

Ok folks. I'll definetly take a good look at that latch mechanism. If that doesn't solve the problem I am going to install some rubber hatch latches. They are similar to the ones truckers use to close and secure the hoods on their big rigs. How do you adjust the rubber bumpstops? I am not...

    Does your rear hatch rattle?

Well, the bolts are OK. I've checked them already. My rear hatch shocks are shot, that might be contributing to the problem. The whole thing just doesn't shut as tight as I think it should. I'll start by replacing those shocks and see if that makes a difference.

    Does your rear hatch rattle?

Hey folks. My rear hatch on my 92 XJ rattles around when travelling over rough terrain. Its driving me nuts. I thought that it was the upholstery panel, but I removed that and it still rattles around. The gate itself is quite loose. Any tips on how to tighten it up?
