I l8ve in Portland and there is a ton of car theft haplening. A forest service XJ just like mine was stolen this morning. In lieu of a kill switch I just want to pull the fuel pumprelay when I leave the Jeep and pop it back in b before I start it as a theft deterrent. Is it safe and okay to jist...

Way to power lights besides battery clamp bolt???

96 xj. I added an h4 harness w relays and fuses for my headlights. Ram the leads straight off the battery clamp. I then upgraded my cables, clamps and terminals and now the eyelets for the lights are too small for the clamp bolt and the clamp bolt is too short also. For the time being, or maybe...

Heater Control Valve: NAPA or O'Reilly's??

For a 96XJ. The one I bought not long ago is leaking from where the arm goes in. I can't remember where I got it, so I"m back to which brand to get. NAPA has one from Balkamp made by Four Seasons O'reilly's has one made by Murray. Thoughts?

    Optional way to reset ECU??

Every couple years a gremlin in my 96 XJ gets pissed and gives me a misfire code on #3 and #4. Code 43 43 when I do the key trick. I normally disconnect battery terminals, and touch cables together for 30 seconds and it resets the CEL for a few more years. My positive connector is FUBAR and a...

    96 XJ mirrors question

My 96 XJ was a surface involved in an..... "interaction" at the bar tonight. I knew the side mirrors folded back, but did not know they also bend upwards and downwards. I assume that's normal but just never tried to bend them like that, but someone I was bouncing from the bar's head showed me...

117A alternator going in. Straight swap??????

I may already have a 117A alternator in the XJ but can't recall. If I have a 90A alternator and I put in a 117A alternator, is there anything I need to do besides remove and install?

    ZJ disc conversion solution!

I bought an 8.25 years ago that had had a disc conversion done. For years I've had weak brakes and long pedal travel even after the swap. I expected better brakes when I swapped but nothing really changed. Fast forward quite a bit. About 65000 miles. I've replaced my front pads twice and...

Brake booster toast: new or reman? Brand?

After 207k miles it's time for the 96s old brake booster to come out and an new one to go in. Like the title says should I get a new one or remanufactured? What brands would ya'll recommend or ones to avoid? I can't lock the tires up anymore so thus needs fixing asap. Thank you tons for any...

    Stock shackles brand recommendations?

So far I have these 3 as choices. Any iinput or recommendations for one over the others? Dorman Crown Omix-Ada. Dormans are the most $ but appear the same as the other brands fwiw. The only bushing I'll be using is the frame side one. My IRO kit's poly ones will remain in the spring eye.

Lower right dash/knee bar attachment points to dash broken

Somehow my dash is broken. The whole right side past the main "behind the ash tray" bolt is hanging and flopping about. It's a 96 XJ but this particular part is fairly universal. If you look at the passenger side of your XJ's dash, there's a kicker panel that the ash tray is part of. This, the...

Door speaker wires, I think. How to test?

My right door speaker on my 96 went out. I've since bought new speakers and the right one still doesn't work, so it wasn't the speaker. I installed a new head unit today. They tone tested the wires before install and got continuity, so theoretically they're good.....maybe? So I've ruled out the...

Anyone feel like doing some minor clear coat repair?

I've got 2 2 foot strips on the roof and a pie plate spot on the hood that's failing. I'm a heavy handed sander and don't want to wreck my paint. I'd gladly pay cash, alcohol, or gift someone some awesome legal things that are hella pricey normally in the "stores" , once they get it from us...

Best place to get a NEW motor?

Thinking ahead for my early year 96 that's nearing 200k. I'd like a new 4.0 or maybe 4.2 long block plug n play. No V's just inline. Any reliable options under 3000? Over? Links? Thanks a ton guys! I'm life committed to my XJ and want to start saving for a new heart for her so when she needs...

Stripped TB mounting screw. Would this fix work??

I've over torqued and stripped one of the 4 holes that bolts go in to secure the TB to the intake on my 96. Helicoil kit is too expensive, so I was going to drill out from 6 to 7mm and retap it to 8mm. My wrists both have pins in them though and I have trouble holding anything straight under...

ISO AC compressor mouning bracket with functional fan clutch bearing

ISO AC compressor mounting bracket with functional fan clutch bearing After 2 months of tracing a noise and replacing anything loose, I've finally figured out the bearing that my mechanical clutch fan attaches to is going out. It's what is causing a faint noise that drives me nuts in traffic...
