    Any Upstate NY XJers?

Well, I'm Upstate now. Webster, just east of Rochester. I've been here a week. I had to leave my MJ in Florida, tho.:tears: Oops. Better update my profile...

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

Ya know, I'm tempted to go see if it IS the horn relay... But I think that might tick off the neighbors since the MJ's sitting right under their bedroom window! :firedevil :D But now after reading up more here in the forum, I'm wondering if it's a coincidence. When I metered at the tank, the...

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

Okay, so I forgot about those little green Bosch cubes on the PS fender well. Swapped relay 2 and 3 and it started! Unless this is a coincidence I'm gonna say that's the problem and buy a replacement tomorrow after work. (anyone know what the second relay was? ) Thanks again for all...

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

This is an '86 MJ. I'm afraid there isn't any fuse panel cover or underhood relay center. It's just got miscellaneous crap strewn all over the fender wells and firewall. :dunno: I WISH it had such things. Methinks life would be so much easier....

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

Okay, so at the connector right before the tank... with it disconnected I get half a volt across the orange and black wires. I figure it takes more than .505 volts to run that pump! The half-arsed circuit diagram in the Haynes manual shows a Fuel Pump Relay but the book doesn't tell me where...

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

Okay, I got down under the truck and put my ear to the tank. There is no noise coming from that area. But I swear in all the years this thing has been handed back and forth between my dad and I I've never heard the fuel pump running. Then again if it's a quiet pump... I've never gotten under...

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

Well...there's nothing to have on. A/C don't work, radio's gone. I don't use the CB unless I'm on the trails. I'll listen for it tonight. The only noise I remember hearing when I turn the key is the momentary sound of the throttle position motor moving. What fun! I love my...

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

Okay, gonna try those things when I get home. Now that you mention listening for the pump, I recall that I never HAVE heard the pump on this thing. How loud is it? Do I need to be up by the tank to hear it? And after thinking about it, why would it just not start, but run somewhat well once it...

'86 2.5L TBI MJ Won't start now (Get comfortable)

Okay, I did a search, and learned alot of new things, but not what I came here to learn. On Friday, I drove the MJ to the store. When I came out and tried to start it, it nearly caught on about the 3rd rotation, but didn't. After which it took a good while of cranking (multiple attempts)...

Okay, what on earth is this?

Hooboy! I didn't think I'd get into all this. I just wanted to replace the pads and shoes. What fun. So I buy straight lines and bend them with...what? Is there a small tubing bender available (CHEAPLY!!!) so I don't crimp/crush the tubing? I like the idea of eliminating the extra valve. I...

Okay, what on earth is this?

Well, no braking pressure in the rear would explain why the wheel cylinders look like the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. They prob'ly haven't even been activated in ages. No telling how long it's been like that. I'm gonna pick up new wheel cylinders tonight. They're $9 for the whole assy at...

Okay, what on earth is this?

That'll work. I like simple fixes that let me enjoy my MJ more often. The only problem is that the more I fix, the more I learn is dangerously wrong with this goofy machine. And I still love it! So here's the question...will tying this thing up outta the way change the way my brakes...

Okay, what on earth is this?

You guys rock! A guy goes into the kitchen for milk and cookies... uh, I mean beer and some beef jerky *cough* and you've already got it figured out. I thought it was something like that, but since it's disconnected I couldn't figure out how it worked.

Okay, what on earth is this?

So tonight I break out the drop light and some tools and prepare for the wonderful task of replacing the brake shoes on this old '86 MJ. I get the wheel off and as I'm being disgusted by the shape of the rear brakes (they look like those undersea pics of the Titanic. All rusty, and corroded...

Is a long bed MJ too long?

Well, in your case, you're enhancing what you've got in a way that works for you. I think no matter what you had, you'd have to modify it into what you're looking for. From what Jaggedsteel said, I think he's trying to take what he's got and make it into something that already exists. IMHO...

Is a long bed MJ too long?

As the handle indicates, I drive a Silver MJ. It's an LB, and while I don't live where there are rocky trails, just this past weekend I whipped my MJ around a fallen tree without slowing down or sliding and didn't even put paint to tree limb. If you don't feel comfortable in or want...
