I wouldn't feel well using anything self-tapping in such thin metal. You should definately have some kind of plate on the bottom to spread the load out...
ARBs run at low PSI, I don't see why a heavy duty line is needed unless you are worried about them getting cut or smashed. As long as you run them safely out of the way, secure them well and leave slack for axle droop I don't see a problem. I am not going to shell out $150 for some over price SS...

I had a hard enough time welding my crossmember on with my hobart 175. You sir, are crazy.
C-Rok outside frame plate, painted black. Like new, plate only. $40 + shipping.
Warn Roller fairlead, on my ARB bullbar for approx. a year w/ two pulls on it. $50 + shipping.

You pretty much nailed it, I don't have a lot of spare time outside of the summer months with school and work. I am also moving this month which doesn't help (hence the name change). Once I get moved in and get everything straightened out, I will attempt to make some runs this summer.
