I’m not sure if a bad gear install would cause a Lock Right to fail. The backlash setting was were I was going with the check the spacing/case comment.
Concur with the bad gear install. What do you mean by the Lock Right broke? Are you talking about the shear pins, the cross shaft or the actual couplers? If it’s the shear pins then that happens from time to time. They are easy/cheap to replace, but twice in one year is a little excessive...
I’ve been running a Mile Marker 12K winch off of the side posts of my red top for a year or so now. It’s seen some heavy duty extended use and hasn’t been a problem. With that said, I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to connect the winch to the side posts at the time. If you can, run the...
I’ve used the same thing for about 2 years now; mine is labeled as “Western Safety”. Make sure you get the one with adjustable sensitivity, delay time and darkness. The hi/low sensitivity settings help keep it from going dark when you get near a drop light. They are great for the weekend...
You’ll have to post pictures when it’s done. How big of a spare are you running? The TJ guys seem to start having problems with door sag when they run anything larger than 33s on the factory carrier. It would be much easier to get the factory swing out tire carrier off of an older AMC XJ (pre...
Actually it’s OBD and it stands for On Board Diagnostics. There are two different versions of the system. OBD I was the first and was used by most vehicle manufactures from the late ‘80s up till ’95 (Jeep XJs used OBD I from ’91-’95). The system works OK, but is not really standardized...
OK I got you now, that makes a lot more sense. You are going to run into some problems on the passenger side. There is nothing solid where you have the hinges in the picture. The only thing is the tail light assembly and it is not nearly strong enough to hold the weight of a spare tire. You...
You lost me on that one. From the picture it looks like the swing out tire carrier is mounted to the lift hatch. This would mean that when you opened the lift hatch, the spare tire and swing out carrier would be lifted up as well. Were you going to mount the hinges to the side of the body...
You are going to have to get some extremely heavy duty pistons to open the lift gate with a tire attached. I’m sure what you are trying to do can be done, but it will be some serious ass pain. Why not build a swing out tire carrier based off of the rear bumper? It was a heck of a lot easier...
Ok that makes a lot more sense now. I’m running a similar set up, just a different location for the temp sensor. Do you know if 2 WD or 4 WD makes a difference as far as tranny temps are concerned?
I just had an epiphany. I’m running 31” tires with the stock gears (3.55s). I’ve been told that this makes the tranny work harder, but I have no idea what the temp was with the stock tires (didn’t have the gauge installed then). Also, where is your temp sensor located? Mine is on the output...
At least we have a REAL mall. You guys get colder in the winter and hotter in the summer – the worst of both worlds! Just giving you a bad time. You have some pretty cool trails up there. Last time I got the tow cooler at Schuck’s. It’s about $15 and they sell it as a tranny cooler fluid...
I have a 100 amp 115V welder that I use regularly. It does sheet metal and small brackets just fine. If you plan on welding sheet metal definitely get the gas. Welding sheet metal with flux core is miserable. For my larger projects (like bumpers, etc) I cut, mock up and tack weld the pieces...
Actually I’d say that was pretty good. I have a ’91 4x4 AW4 with the in radiator cooler and an external cooler. My temps usually run between 190 and 210. When I put it in 4 Lo the temp really climbs quickly and I’ve had the needle pegged before (250 degrees) while running up snowy hills...
