I think a clean 80s XJ is already a classic. It was the first downsize, 4 door, popular suv. I agree that they are too common to ever be real valuble though. Look at Model T & Model A Fords. There were millions of them sold and they are for sure classics, but nice ones are only in the $10k to...

Are you sure about 15" wheels? The 4WDHardware catalog says "Libertys must use a minimum of a 16" wheel to clear the brakes". Of course 4WD is the Macdonalds of offroad shops, so I'd be inclined to believe someone who has seen one with 15" wheels. :dunno:

That's your brake light switch. I think you need brake lights on the trail if you wheel with other people though. There should be a white wire, that's the power to your brake lights. You just need a power source to the switch & you'll have brake lights. I'd use a GM two wire brake light switch...

You have a common problem. The only fix is to cut an access hole in the rail or floor weld it back up. There are a bunch of threads with pictures on this forum. Have fun & do a good job.

94 to 01 interchange. The difference in d35 carriers is c-clip/non c-clip. You need a 94 & later to work in your 98.

When I've used shims the pin has always been long enough to reach the perch. Do aftermarket springs have longer pins? That's all I've ever used the slip in shims on. Of course the right solution is to use bolt in shims that are part of the spring pack, but that's not always the simple option.

:dunno:Those are WJ springs. Will they work in an XJ? I've used ZJ coils but I haven't heard anything about WJ springs. If they will work, that's a killer deal. I'll order them for my trail rig today if they fit.

2X, I had this problem on my 87 also. I would open it by hand & then it would work normally for a while then it would stick closed again.

I just compared the 235/75x15"s on my 2wd Ford to a 30/9.50 on a TJ wheel & they are close in height and width. When I went from 30"s to 235s on my 95 XJ it didn't make any significant difference except the 235s seemed to ride a little softer. This was on a completely stock 4.0 SE.

My sons' catylitic converter rattled under heavy acceleration(95 4.0] before it did the complete self destruction thing. It sounded about like your description of the noise & it was at about 130k.

Junkyard coils & build a bastard pack or an aal & shim the steering stops. You can't beat that for cheap! It looks like you might have some YJ donor springs laying around for a bp.

I have vent wings on my 87 & will probably eventually put them on the 95 unless we pull the doors. If you screw around with them you can cut down on the wind whistle, but it can be irritating. Just another reason to have a stereo.

2X There was info in 4Wheeler magazine on a conversion to the AW4 in YJs for better milage & it stated the AW4 did not come in the Wranglers, but that it's an excellent swap for mpg. We got the good trans. Another reason to love our XJs.

2X I've heard they were an option through 96, but I haven't seen any on mid 90s rigs. What is the latest model XJ anyone has seen that had opening vent window:dunno:s? And in my opinion, even though I haven't owned one, 1999 is the best Cherokee for all the previously mentioned reasons.

You're right, with the drop brackets there shouldn't be any preload. Without them on our rig the truck springs with the spacers were stuffed up in there under tension. They bulged forward untill we installed adjustable lowers & to me that indicates preload & they sure rode like it.

My 87 is like yours, my 95 is at a rt angle. It looks like you might have to move the charcoal canister up an inch or so to use the later adapter. TJs & some GCs don't use an adapter at all, the filter just sticks out to the side. You can orient the adapter to point in any direction but it looks...

:thumbup:I'm afraid if you want a soft ride & a lift you are going about it all wrong. Just spend a bunch of $$$ with O.M.E. Also aren't S-10 bastard packs known for their stiffness? I haven't used the T-Bird springs but F-150 springs are harsh. Buy some R.E. 4.5" coils when your budget allows...
