    Fiberglass floor repair

I haven't found anything about this doing searches... Is it acceptable to repair holes in the floor up to 4" diameter with fibreglass, or does it have to be a weld in repair? Thanks, Geoff

Rim choice for 31's and 2.5-3" lift

I'm running a small lift, and want to get as much flex out of it as I can. Are the factory rims the best option? Can you stuff a rim with 4.5" backspace? As stated, I'll be running 31's. Thanks. Geoff

Dana 44 brakes vs 8.25 brakes

'96 XJ, 31's, SYE, 3" lift. Been running this for about 3 years. I was ready to begin a disc brake conversion on my 27 spline 8.25. A local junkyard has an XJ Dana 44 for $200. How good are the brakes on a D44? Should I do the disc swap on my 8.25, which is in great shape, or go for the D44...

    Leaf shackle and pinion angle

Is there a rule of thumb regarding a lift shackle and pinion angle? For example would 1" of lift from a shackle cause a 2 degree change in pinion angle? thanks for any help.

    When to upgrade steering gear??

Hi, What is the common thinking for when a steering gear upgrade is needed? I will be running 31" MT's on 3" of lift doing mild to moderate wooded trails. Any daily driving will be largely highway, and little city driving. 4.0 engine, and no winch as yet. It took 11 years to wear out my...

    Brake pad glides

On the front brakes of my Cherokee there are no brake pad glides. The pads sit directly on the cast steel caliper anchor. I'm used to seeing shiny steel glides for the brake pads to slide smoothly on on other vehicles. Is this normal for Cherokees? Geoff Just got oto Rock Auto's website...

    Goodyear MT/R

Has the Goodyear MT/R that was used as stock equipment on Rubicons been discontinued? I've checked a few local shops and a couple of online stores and all I'm finding are the new MT/R Kevlar tires. Thanks. Geoff

    Troubleshooting a homemade lift

I've got a mix of parts on my XJ. In some ways the lift works and in some it doesn't. Front coils were from Auto Value. They are a MOOG coil, rated as a snow plow coil for an Up-Country Cherokee. I also have a 3/4" spacer. The front sits at about 2.25 - 2.5" above stock. I have a set of Rancho...

    97-01 electric fan in a 96

Is there anything to be gained by using a '97 electric auxilary fan in a '96. I was shopping for a fan shroud on Team Cherokee, and noticed the '97+ fan looks like a higher CFM fan than the '96. Has anyone done this before...

    Easiest way to remove LCA's

Is it simplest to just cut them off with a reciprocating saw, and install new? I live in Eastern Canada, and rust is a real issue. Would it be better to press out the bolts with something like a ball joint press? I haven't had any luck trying to drive them out. Geoff

1996 Clock spring and Steering gear

I took the steerig gear out of my 96 xj the other night. My boy asked to go sit inside the jeep, and before I said anything, he was hollering, "The steering wheel turned, and now it stopped." So, the steering wheel turned, and I don't know which way. I found this thread that says you don't need...

    Priming engine with oil

My Jeep has been sitting for a few months. Where can I get an adaptor to prime my oil pump? You know, the kind that lets you attach a drill to the distributor to pump oil up through the top of the engine. Thanks.

    Steering Gear Source

Anybody know about these guys? What makes the off-road box better than stock? Go for this or for a Durango box? Geoff http://www.carsteering.com/partsdisplay/1996_Jeep/Cherokee.html

    Door Latch Source

1996 XJ, 4 door. Chrysler has quit making and selling door latches. Through my local auto body supply shops, I can get handles, lock cylinders, rods, etc., but no door latches. Anything I get from a junk yard would probably be just about worn out too. Does anyone know of a source for these...

    Sidewall rating and Towing

Is there any benefit to going to a load range E sidewall? For moderate towing (under 4000 lbs), would it help keep the XJ more stable? Would a heavier load range mean a thicker sidewall and more protection off-road? Thanks. Geoff

    Fuel starvation??? NEED HELP!

'96 Jeep XJ 4.0 auto I just got a call for a new job on Monday, and my XJ isn't running. I've had issues with fuel starvation (suspect that's what it is) off and on for weeks. My local garage diagnosed it as a fuel pump, and I had them replace it, and the problem is still there... I didn't make...

    narrow 33's on a 3" lift

I've read the pros and cons of stuffing 33's under a 3" lift, and I think it will suit for the type of wheeling I do and terrain I encounter. But where does the tire usually contact the fender? Would running 33x9.50's help? I like the narrow tire anyway because we get alot of slush and wet...

    Kelly Springfield Tires

I was at my local Canadian Tire store this evening, looking at tires. Kelly Springfield makes a tire, the Big O, if I remember correctly. I read several reviews about it and it does everything well, with the exception of heavy mud. It is a good snow and ice tire (siped), it voids mud well with...
