89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

So, I just dropped my drums off at the machine shop. They measured them and they are measuring under 10 inches. I told them to turn them as far out as they can. I will post up with the results when I get them back on tomorrow. Thinking this has been my issue all along. Never buy shit from...

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

That thought crossed my mind this morning. I don't have a caliper large enough to accurately measure the new drums. They are made by Parts Master and I can't even find them on-line. Goddamn Chinese crap.

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

I do have it set up that way. Wondering if I have the wrong cable, adjuster, spring or possibly drum. The shoes I have are Wagner Thermo Quiet PAB267R, and everything I can find says they are correct. I may have the old hardware under a pile of junk. Will have to dig for it tonight when i...

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

I finally got a chance to take the wheel and drum off to inspect. The leading and trailing shoes are in the correct order. The smaller one is the leading. I was really hoping I had messed it up somehow. I know they lay flat when laid upon their side. Only working on one side at a time right...

Parking or e brake dash light

Try pushing the brake pedal as far down as you can. I mean, really stand on it. See if it goes off then. Mine was on because of leaking cylinders at the rear. I replaced them and the light was still on. One good mash of the pedal, and it went off.

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

Ah. This one has a hole where a U-shaped part of the adjuster lever sits. It actually goes through the rib of the trailing shoe. When everything is right, the spring from the other shoe holds it in place through tension.

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

That is what the majority of the sites I have found seem to be saying. Now, to figure out which one I relied on at the time! Honestly, after all of the dinking around I have done with it, I hope it is that easy. If not, I am going to buy another new set of pads and hope China screwed me on...

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

OK, guys. Since Old Man has me thinking about it again, can someone clarify the Leading vs. Trailing shoe thing for me? I thought I knew and I think they are on correctly, but as I look at different websites, I am receiving varying information about the subject. Some sites are saying the...

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

8Mud, I am not exactly sure what adjuster lever pin you are talking about. The new shoes were bare and I installed a new hardware kit. There were a few things that got re-used from the old stuff, but not much. Alex E, I never thought of that. I did not have the axle supported at all when I...

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

Yes, I do. I don't have it taken apart and I can't find my photos, but I am fairly certain I have them in the proper locations. I should say, I could be wrong. It has been known to happen a time or two in the past. I will take it apart tomorrow and check again. Thank you for your reply.

89 Dana 35 drum brakes help?

Hello All, I am seeking some assistance with my rear brakes. I recently installed new drums, shoes, hardware and cylinders. I measured the new drums against the old ones and they seemed to be the correct size. My problem is, in order to get the drums on, I have to have the star-adjuster...

    Power steering pump

I would look into a barbed, possibly thread-in fitting. Would be tricky to do with it in the Jeep, but if you could drill it to the proper size, clean the hell out of it, you could probably JB weld a fitting in there and be just fine. Will take some creative thought to find just the right...

    RUNNING RICH

If you are sure there are no leaks, try swapping out the gas cap. I bought a locking one that didn't seal well from when it was brand new. I frequently could smell raw gas and was obviously concerned. Ordered a new factory one form the dealer and the smell went away. Not meaning to derail...

    NP242 Range Shift Fork Removal

I took that side of the case to a machine shop, as I do not have an internal puller. I think they charged me about $30 to pull it out. I do kind of like the home-made tool in the link. You have questioned the 2 hardest parts of rebuilding one of those things. I got my kit from rigidsteel too...

    NP242 Range Shift Fork Removal

I suppose I should say, try the extractor first. I found it easier to use the kind that locks into the T-handle. I believe that little plug is rubber and just pries out, IIRC. I may have some directions somewhere if you need. Just say so. The only other thing I remember being a huge help is...

    NP242 Range Shift Fork Removal

Man, I had the same problem with mine. It says to use a #2 screw extractor, but that did not work for me. It is a roll-pin in that hole that is supposed to slide out. I ended up drilling a hole in my case on the exact opposite side to try to knock it out. I still could not get it and gave...

    Unicorn Boogers????

I don't trust Lucas stuff either. A few years ago, I gave the oil additive a shot. Almost immediately, I noticed my heap was running hotter than normal. I inspected the cooling system and everything seemed to be OK. I started googling the Lucas additive and found a few places where guys were...

    Brake Hard lines/Double Flare tool

Thanks guys. I will try another cutter and use another method to tighten the wing nuts. I did de-burr the line. I will let you know how it goes.

    Brake Hard lines/Double Flare tool

Thanks, but I did that too. I tightened the hell out of it. I have a POS cutter which seems to work adequately and the bender seems OK too. From what I have seen on the instructional videos, you shouldn't have to tighten the clamp with anything other than your hand if it is worth having...

    This is some S#!%

Their quiet sacrifice means more to me than all of the Hollywood crap ever combined. We couldn't have the luxury of watching a chunt like L. L. go to prison if it were not for our fine men and women who give us such freedom. I agree it is wrong that they are not honored more publicly, but to...
