    Excessive Low Idle

It's a 2000. All OEM lines are connected, I haven't checked for clogs but I can't possibly fathom a reason I would have one in the PCV. It's only been running a week and it's a fresh rebuild. It stopped doing it yesterday afternoon and went back to normal. I'm not sure what it was. But...

    Excessive Low Idle

The XJ shut off mid-drive and has had an excessive low idle after the engine has warmed up. When turned on cold it idles at 750~, but right around 160 on the CTS it starts to lower gradually until it's idling at that bottom bar (500?). I'm not sure if this is indicative of an IAC problem or...

    Low/No Voltage at Mini Fuses

I have a bunch of small fuses in the engine bay that don't have any voltage. There are only two that do and they read 9.6~ volts with the key on, and 10.6 with the engine running. I don't think this is normal. Is anyone familiar with a possibility as to why this is? I was going to use a...

    Low Vacuum at Idle

My cam sync sensor was half plugged in. Fully plugging it in stopped it from varying between 13 and 15 and kept the idle a little higher, but the vacuum is still at 15 inches. I wish it was more. Ignition advance half plugged in was around 18, now it's around 8 and varies as low as 3 and as...

Engine swap, do anything else while its out?

Now would also be a great time to inspect every single vacuum hose and replace them. the ones that extend to the passenger side behind the engine via the plastic lines. They can become brittle and crack. I had one crack and replaced it with a section of sturdy hose.

Engine swap, do anything else while its out?

I'll tell you how to stop brittle aging parts in 2000 and 2001 models, as well as eliminate the heat soak issue. Get rid of the pre-cats. I just did that this week. Legal or not it wasn't done with previous models and the only reason to do that would be to cause more problems. Putting the...

    Low Vacuum at Idle

I found this. The drifting between 14 and 16 is the closest description to my problem, but these plugs haven't been touched and have been used for several thousands of miles with no issue so that's not possible. I don't have a points system to synchronize so... Not sure what the equivalent...

    Low Vacuum at Idle

Also of note, when I give it gas it runs just fine. That's what makes me think it's vacuum but I've got a lot of experience troubleshooting vacuum lines and am usually hyper aware of them any time I touch anything in the engine bay area.

    Low Vacuum at Idle

2000 XJ, AW4 I just finished up some wiring on the passenger side of the XJ earlier in the garage. When I turned it on I could hear a faint uneven sound that sounded like it could be coming from the engine. From inside the cabin I could hear it but outside I couldn't. While I was near the...

    Cam Break-in, 3000 + Idle

I found it. I didn't know it was possible to noob the manifold installation this badly. Thanks guys!

    Cam Break-in, 3000 + Idle

I am in the middle of breaking in the cam and the idle was high (after it's on for a very short amount of time it revs to beyond 3k - then I shut it off). WHen I turn it on I touch the pedal to bring it up to 2k (it cranks up and hangs around a low idle and feels a tad shaky before I bring...

    Engine Rebuilt

Considering I was positive I wiped a cam lobe, should I see this? Usually in the past I had silvery stuff in the oil. I had no silver, but a few noticeable particles. None of the lifters looked damaged but a few lobes were too shiny to not be wiped. This go around it wiped from loose rocker...

    Engine Rebuilt

2 lifters are semi-collapsible, the others are all stiff like they've been oiled. My machinist didn't want me to oil them internally and recommended I cushion it in a vice with some towels and a bolt to get them collapsing for pre-load check'ment. He said mineral spirits wasn't necessary either.

    Engine Rebuilt

Is it necessary to pre-soak lifters in mineral spirits a day before? I don't seem to have the ability to find the reasoning behind it, but CompCams has it listed as a to-do before installation. I was wondering if that is something that would even out the internal pressures. Only 2 or 3 of...

    Engine Rebuilt

Very informative testing on different cam lube assemblies being tested. Conducted very scientifically if I might add. I've never heard of ZPaste, or most of the other lubes. https://zddplus.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/TechBrief12-ZDDP-and-Engine-Break-in-1.pdf

Engine swap, do anything else while its out?

Check your transmission breather hose situation. It should be on top of the bell housing to the passenger side a bit. If there's nothing there, put something there and run the hose up somewhere in the engine bay. I just did it myself. Also, take your torque converter out. It's heavy and...

    Engine Rebuilt

I've been investigating magnets. It appears putting them on the oil filter body works. I've seen two separate videos where they were dissected. One used neodymiums and the other used ceramics. They both worked. I've got a bunch of magnets laying around so I'm going to fashion them into a...

    Engine Rebuilt

I would hate to see what a non-budget stroker is. Mine was $7500 shipped to the door already broke in. I certainly overpaid, but I had the means necessary to and didn't have the time or inclination to spend 2 months building a stroker myself. I barely had the time to just get the engine...

    Engine Rebuilt

The Internet. 050, .50... close enough. They're hydraulic. They'll make it work. Chad at Golen said to use the 1.5 turns as a reference. From the time the rods hit zero lash I should only be able to turn the bolts for the rocker arms between 1 and 1.5 turns before it's snug. He said if...

    Engine Rebuilt

Measure to 0, add a full turn and a half, and then add .50". Got it.
