problem solved, guess I got lucky.
I cleaned up all my grounds and connections(again) and put the old alternator back in and now it is charging great.
5-90- thanks for the explanation regarding some of the chain parts store. I'm stationed in puerto rico right now and my options are kinda...
retested today, with the test lead on the alternator output and alternator connected (running), voltage is still lower. Took the alternator out and had it bench testd at autozone, tested fine.
5-90
To me this sounds like the alt. is good, it is charging- I'm getting a whopin 25 volts...
oh yeah, I have 5 90's battery cables and a fairly new battery, both not even a year old. I think I caught this very early, as my battery has not died yet.
I've been searching the multitude of alternator problem threads....if you know of one that applies I'm listening.
Got a 'check gauges' light today, dash gauge for battery at zero. Restart jeep, battery gauge at dash stays approx 12v for about 10-15min minutes, then drops down to nothing again...
Obviously I wish I had replaced the tc first. I consulted with a lot of people including some local tranny shops and got the same answer from all of them, they rarely see the torque converter go out in the aw4 and when they do the fluid looks/smells burnt, which mine never did. Even the shop...
well I can finally put an end to my tcc lockup problem and of course it is in the last place I looked. After I replaced the TCU, lockup tranny solenoid, cleaned/inspected the NSS and valvebody, I finally replaced the torque converter and what do you know- I now have tcc lockup and my CEL finally...
i just had the ignition lock ripped out of my 2000 cherokee. luckily I came back before they could make off with the jeep. was able to find someone on the naxja classifieds that was parting out their jeep, sold me the ign lock and door locks w/ key for $40. While I was looking, I also found this...
I ran 31''x10.5" tires with a 2" RE BB lift on an otherwise stock daily driver 96 XJ, no trimming. I did some offroading, nothing extreme and no crazy flexing(never disconnected the sway bar) with minor rubbing when I turned the wheel all the way over.
I believe RE recomends 30" tires with this...
2000 xj with 3.5" RE lift and 31'' tires. had condiderable vibes until i dropped the transfer case 1'', added shims, and replaced all my u-joints. no SYE, vibes are very minimal now. no problems with the head, 95k.
when i check the voltage going to the fuse it is 12V. I am assuming this is to much, or it would not keep blowing the fuse. Anybody know what the correct voltage is here?
92 XJ- Instrument gauges not working. Checked the fuse for the gauges and found it blown. Replaced fuse(7.5 amp) and as soon as I turn on the ignition, it blows again.
Any ideas where to start looking? I am checking my grounds as I find them...
update to my situation-
my valve body is back inside the tranny and seems to be working fine. I am back to square one again. Jeep drives fine, trannys shifts great, just no lockup of the torque converter and jeep is showing a CEL for 0740 code- no tcc lockup.
List of things I have done-
replaced...
