99 4.0L, Weak crank, low idle.

Battery seems to have done it. Put it in, cranked right over, idled perfectly.

99 4.0L, Weak crank, low idle.

Yeah, I think it might be the battery. Hooked up a charger, went to "full charge" after about 5 minutes, then dropped back to empty. Then back to full, and back to empty every 5-10 seconds. Got it running/idling, and I'm getting 13.85v, so the alternator seems good. Just time for a new...

99 4.0L, Weak crank, low idle.

Thanks hex. Went out this morning to go to work and it did the same thing again when I tried to start. :( I'll check the battery with a multimeter. Ran into an issue when I reconnected the battery last time too: I forgot that a previous owner had installed an alarm. Reconnecting the...

99 4.0L, Weak crank, low idle.

I don't know what it was, but it would crank slow, but when you gave it gas, it would start just fine. Also: driving around for a while seems to have fixed the idle issue. Thanks.

99 4.0L, Weak crank, low idle.

That sounds like it exactly. So how long should I expect this "reboot" to last? When will it go back to normal? Do I just need to start driving it (2-footing the pedals) for a while in order for it to relearn the idle settings?

99 4.0L, Weak crank, low idle.

99 XJ 4.0L auto 135k miles. Had the fuel pump replaced 2 weeks ago, and at the same time had 4-hole injectors installed. Ran okay till last weekend. I disconnected the battery to reset the ECU (so it "re-learns" the fuel mapping). It ran okay on Sunday after that, but Monday morning when I...

    "Bubbles" of sagging in headliner?

I have several dinner-plate sized spots where the headliner material has come loose from the backing. Any easy fix for this without pulling the headliner and replacing/regluing the entire thing?

    Passenger window switch not working

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeNBpzFnltk It's the tan and beige wires.

    Passenger window switch not working

Yeah, this is a very common problem. I've owned 3 97+ XJs and they've all had this problem. If you google it, you can find the fix. It's something about pulling the driver's side kick panel and taking the brown and beige(?) wires and splicing them together. Not sure about the wire colors...

    Oil pressure sending unit

What's your gauge reading? On my 99, one day it just started reading about 40psi higher than it previously had (even with the ignition on, but engine not started). Bought a new sensor from the dealer and the issue went away.

Electric fan keeps turning off and on

I found on CherokeeForum, a post from several years ago which says low refrigerant could cause this.... but wouldn't that only apply for when the compressor is on, not for when it's just running hot?

Electric fan keeps turning off and on

99 XJ Sport, 4.0L, 4wd, 130k miles. When the engine gets hot or when the AC/def is on (the times when the electic radiator fan ought to be running), the fan will come on for a couple seconds, then turn off, then back on, and off. It will keep doing this, never staying on (or off) for longer...

What are those replacement fuel injectors which have a better spray pattern?

Hrm.... so the $80 set or the $200 set. Kinda leaning toward the $200 ones. Flow-matched and guaranteed.

What are those replacement fuel injectors which have a better spray pattern?

You know the ones I'm talking about.... the same flow/pressure as the stock injectors, but they have a finer spray pattern? My 99 XJ Sport is needing a replacement fuel pump, and I figured "why not replace the injectors too?". So I was gonna buy a set of whatever the "good" injectors are, have...

99 XJ 4.0L: Loss of power at low rpms?

Anyone able to recommend a brand/model for a replacement fuel pump assembly? Checked with the dealer and an OEM pump is $340 and the filter is $100. Rock Auto has several different brands/models listed, but I'm not sure which would be best.

99 XJ 4.0L: Loss of power at low rpms?

Priming it 2x before starting seems to do the trick. Guessing that the loss of power could also be fuel related, and at 130k miles, it might be time to replace the pump and filter.

99 XJ 4.0L: Loss of power at low rpms?

I'll try "priming" the fuel system with the ignition key a couple times tomorrow morning to see if that makes a difference.

99 XJ 4.0L: Loss of power at low rpms?

It's getting worse. Now taking 2 cranks before starting in the mornings (shut off and start within 1 hour or so, it's fine). IAC? TPS? CPS? Fuel pump check valve?

99 XJ 4.0L: Loss of power at low rpms?

Not sure which fluid. Took the Jeep to the dealer and had the Up-Country springs (from Quadratec) installed back in November, and had them do a "transmission flush" at that time. So I'm guessing (hoping?) that they used the correct fluid. You think the TPS could be dirty? What's the best...

Thanks for the replies.... I'll check the rotors for wear tomorrow.
