Just a follow up. I got the Strong Arms installed. As I suspected, one of the Monroes had blown its seals and had no pressure remaining. The other seamed fine and I kept it as a spare. Hopefully, I won't need it for another 5-7 years.
Thanks. I'll give the Strong Arms a try. I know how heavy that tailgate is, lol. I muscle the install of the struts by myself. I suspect that only one of the Monroes have failed and the other is likely still good, but is not enough by itself to hold the lift gate up.
Dredging up an old thread to see if there might be any updated information about best/longest lasting brand. My last set of Monroes from Rock Auto died within 6 months (no warranty)!
For shocks, I just replaced mine using KYB Excel-Gs all around for OEM ride quality. I have yet to replace my leafs, although with 281K on them, they're probably due.
My suspicions are confirmed. I got the oil adapter off of the XJ this afternoon and confirmed that it was not the seals that failed, but I did in fact over torque the bolt to where it bent in concave fashion against the sealing surface until the flange broke away from the bolt. So, when I...
Although the 235/65-17 will retain close to the factory diameter, the 235 tread width may be too wide to fit your tire cover over. I have a 225/75-15 inside mount spare and the tire cover just fits over the tire. I have 235/75-15 mounted on the vehicle and the tire cover will not fit over the...
I will pull everything apart later today or tomorrow to see exactly what the problem is. However, on initial inspection (using a light & mirror), it appears that the oil was flowing out from between the actually hex head bolt and the flange that the hex head rests against. There does not...
For clarification as to the RENIX type of oil filter adapter bolt I'm trying to refer to, please look at the second picture of the first post in this thread.
It is the round flange underneath (or on top of in the picture) the hex bolt that I believe may be loose from the bolt shaft. Does...
I have a Renix era adapter that takes a different bolt than the one you provided the P/N to (thanks BTW). The Enid adapter has a 16mm hex bolt that sits on top of a flange instead of a Torx.
Yes, but to be more clear (if I wasn't in my previous post), is the base - the part that presses against the mid-sized o-ring - fixed to the bolt, or should it spin freely around the bolt (like a washer next to the hex head)?
Can the bolt be acquired without the adapter body?
Can someone confirm that the base my oil filter adapter (the part that the bold head rests against) should be welded/fixed to the bolt head and not rotate around the bolt. Watched about 3 Qts on oil shoot onto my garage floor after replacing the seals. I think I broke the base away from the...
Success! No runs, drips or apparent errors utilizing the Four Seasons housing and a new Stant Superstat. Shake down went well and no puddles are forming in the driveway. Even found a local shop to take in some used coolant I had sitting in that garage. I only lost about 1/3 of a...
I can fully relate and sympathize. Day #4 in thermostat replacement. Using Hypoid's suggestion, I did find a high spot on the Murray branded housing, so I tried re-using the OEM thermostat and housing with a new gasket thinking that maybe I over thunk the whole situation and a gasket was all I...
I found the problem. The new T-stat (NAPA rebranded Stant Superstat) was not seating fully the way I was positioning it in the housing. The top of the NAPA stat is wider and more rounded than the OEM. Also, although the OEM and NAPA stats are the same height overall, the flange of the NAPA...
Yep, on both accounts. Snugged them down evenly and tightened to the FSM spec of 13 ft-lbs.
@Hypoid - The housing is new due to concerns that my old one may have warped a bit causing the initial leak. Hopefully, it wasn't bad right out of the box (but its been known to happen). I have also...
I think that may be where my problem is, that the T-stat may have slipped a little. The gasket LOOKs like it is even all around, but maybe not. I have not tried to seat the T-stat using RTV, gasket glue, or some other adhesive. That will be my next step tomorrow.
Well, I got the new housing on with a FelPro gasket and the T-stat is leaking worse than the original leak. No problem with the plug, the leak is coming from near the bottom housing bolt. So tomorrow, I get to do it all over again!
After pulling to current T fitting off, it was in a lot better condition than I anticipated. The rust was just surface rust, so I cleaned it up and all is well. The stubbed elbow I linked to above would not have worked, as the raised portion is to small for the heater hose.
The bad news is...
