    Another 0331 curse

3-4 is toast and the rest are kind of low, considering the spec is 125-140 with no more than a 30 psi between cylinders. But those low numbers might be because of the gauge as well. may want to try a different one. Plenty of guys have dropped a TUPY or Clearwater head on a damaged engine...

1995 XJ With a trans shifting issue

Great buy for $300! Don't forget about the importance of the throttle position sensor in shifting. Here is more on this very important engine management sensor. Good luck and keep us updated! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The throttle position...

    Noisy fuel pump?

Keep a very close "ear" on that fuel pump noise. Increasing noise on the pump is likely indicating failure in the near future. However, if the noise stays the same, it may last for some time. I'm with lazyxj. I will not recommend, nor will I install an Airtex XJ fuel pump. A search will...

    Stalling Problem, 88 Renix

What brand crank sensor did you install? You could be suffering from "thermal failure" (heat related) on the crank sensor. I install only Mopar crank sensors. Aftermarket crank sensors are very "hit and miss" with a lot of miss.

    2000 XJ

Yup, it's all about the codes. Gotta use the technology provided to you by your Jeep. OBDII isn't perfect, but it is awfully darn good at pointing you to the offending circuit.

    2000 XJ

Any check engine light? If you've seen one (even if it isn't currently on), then retrieve codes for clues and post the EXACT code here. Otherwise, I would recommend you try this procedure. -------------------------------------------------- The Idle Air Control (IAC) is mounted on the back of...

    Smog check moron

You had a guy that was "drunk with power", as if that's possible with smog testing. And,the check engine light did not exist on the 87-90 XJ. As they say in the financial industry, "your results may vary". Good story.

    Starts, them dies

Well, if wiggling the wires on the ballast resistor allowed it to start and run, which you claim it did, gotta start there. Bypass the resistor with a short piece of wire between the terminals of the resistor. That will tell you if that is root cause or if it is something else. You can...

    99 XJ 4.0 Engine Missfire Won't Start

How many miles on this engine? Looks like you have done the usual tuneup stuff of spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and don't forget to install a new rotor too. And yes, be sure that the spark plug wires "click" onto the spark plug. I'd then drive it for a while and see if any...

    Highland Floor Mats?

I use either Weathertech or Husky in all my vehicles. Reasonably priced and well made. Spend the extra money. You'll be very glad you did.....

    Jeep just quit, need help

I agree with lazyxj. 96 is OBDII, so if you put a code reader or scan tool on it, you should be able to retrieve the full PXXXX code, (if any codes are present) which is way more valuable than using the "key on, key off" technique. I would absolutely start with that. Gotta see if there are...

    Overheat issue

The 91 and newer 4.0 HO engines are self burping to remove air. When you get done with rebuilding your cooling system and filling with the proper concentration of coolant, your engine should burp itself of air within about 4 complete heat up / cool down cycles. While these cycles are...

    Overheat issue

    1. You know you have nasty coolant. You should have flushed the cooling system when you replaced the stat. After flushing, you need to end up with a 50/50 mixture of coolant (I recommend conventional green antifreeze) and distilled water. Never leave tap water in the system. 2. The #1 cause...

    thermostat change temperature variation

courtesy of lunghd; Jeeps Unlimited..... ------------------------------------------------------------------- Burping trapped air from the head of a 4.0L in-line six cylinder is an easy way to burn your hands or get scalded when ya remove the temperature gauge sender on the head of a hot engine...

    thermostat change temperature variation

Also, did you try "burping" the cooling system? Did you drain the radiator when you changed the thermostat. It is possible that you may have air trapped in the cooling system after the repair. Quite common on the 87-90. SEARCH and you'll find the best way to burp the system. What...

    thermostat change temperature variation

    1. Were you having any symptoms or was your cooling system working properly when you changed the thermostat? 2. You mean 192 degree stat, correct? What is the brand? 3. If you weren't having this symptom before you changed the thermostat, (were you??) you likely have a bad thermostat right...

    Intermittent '01 idle problem

What you are describing sounds like classic "heat soak" to me. For whatever reasons, the 00-01 are particularly susceptible to this problem. I'd suggest you search this and other Jeep forums for "heat soak" and you'll get plenty of hits. Fixes include a timer that keeps the efan running for a...

    OIL PRESSURE PROBLEMS

Agree with Tim. You must verify. And that has to be done with a mechanical oil pressure gauge, installed where the oil pressure sending unit resides. Many parts stores will rent you a mechanical oil pressure gauge very inexpensively; call around for availability. Use a testing based strategy...

93 XJ won't start after spark?

I agree with Flyfisher that you should check all fuses. Pay special attention to the ones inside of the PDC, the power distribution box. It's the black box under the hood on the passenger side. Check each and every critical fuse.
