    1987 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer - $1500

Sorry, my typo, that would be an NP231.

    1987 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer - $1500

I'm selling my 1987 Cherokee. It ain't what you'd call purty, but it's cool, solid and reliable. It has 215K miles on the 4.0 motor, which shows good, even compression, and the AW4 is working well. It's located in Lake Elizabeth, about 20 miles west of Palmdale or 20 miles north of Santa...

AW4 not shifting after a swim

Yup, par for the course I know. If I had to rely on the old thing to get me through my 150-mile daily commute, I wouldn't intentionally abuse it in the name of fun. But I have a new, comfy, zippy, and quite well-treated Mazda for daily duties, and if the Jeep breaks I find out what's wrong and...

AW4 not shifting after a swim

Yes. I have been checking the appropriate connections. I will find more to check. I am fully aware that 22-year-old, 215K-mile beater electrical connectors can let water in when plowing through a mud puddle, and I will remain fully aware of that the NEXT time I go plowing through a mud puddle...

AW4 not shifting after a swim

"Powerwash" was a figurative term referring to the mud-bath that ensued from the above photos. I didn't powerwash the engine bay - it didn't really even get all that wet from the puddles. As I mentioned, the TPS readings check out fine. I also opened up both the connectors at the TPS, including...

AW4 not shifting after a swim

So yesterday afternoon we went out for a couple hours of this: Followed by a protracted period of this: It was really fun. Afterward we went to the store, and the Jeep sat in the parking lot for half an hour or so. Now the AW4 won't shift itself out of first. TPS checks out good, is...

    I am a lucky man.

Hell, I'm at work today. No welding going on here. Pink camo, eh? Come on...you know you want to. Get in touch with your feminine side, as they say.

    I am a lucky man.

She ain't goin' NOwheres...we understand each other, we make each other laugh...I hear guys at work constantly bitching about their wives and girlfriends, and have no frame of reference at all. :)

    I am a lucky man.

My girlfriend got me a Lincoln Power Mig 180C for Xmas in all its 230v, constant voltage goodness. This is the same girl who in 4 years has never once complained about my buying tools, parts or indeed dragging home a ridiculous amount of wheeled projects of nearly infinite variety. The same...

    OFFICIAL SOCAL EMERGENCY RECOVERY THREAD

Re: OFICIAL SOCAL EMERGENCY RECOVERY THREAD I don't have much to offer rig-wise but I can come and wield a shovel or tug someone around with a '74 F350 or donate a tow from AAA Premier (if my XJ leaves any available). I'm in Lake Elizabeth and have a hi-lift, some straps, a wimpy comealong, and...

Why do they shutdown roads in SoCal?

I like driving in the snow, if there's no one else around. At least you know what it is you're dealing with - not like last January when I found a single, solitary sheet of black ice in the shadow of a hill when the temperature was not remotely freezing and rolled a Honda. Whoops. I live just...

    What do I want?

If they made an extended cab 1-ton, which they didn't, then I would have. But sometimes it just makes sense to keep 2 vehicles, each having a specific purpose. Especially if I can ever get the Jeep to a point where I'm comfortable taking it out in the wilds for any significant length of time...;)

    Thank you, NAXJA

In addition to the problems I've found help with here since I bought my XJ last year, I apparently have been learning an awful lot just from reading other people's posts. Although I am far from an expert, I was pleased the other day with my current level of knowledge. A nice looking red XJ on...

    What do I want?

Never mind, I'm keepin' em both. I just get these "obsessions" with other cars from time to time, and need to stop acting on them. :)

    Circumventing fusebox

On my '87 beater, a couple of the places on the fusebox where fuses plug in are FUBAR, like someone squashed and destroyed the little brass connectors in there. We're talking the heater blower and the rear window wiper here. The rest of the fusebox is still good, and the Jeep's an auto so no...

    What do I want?

See, that's what's missing on the 1st Gen Dakota front, as far as I can tell - in-depth, dedicated sites like those (and NAXJA) with answers to every question you could possibly have.

    What do I want?

Yeah, I like mine a lot - I have 33,000 miles on it since I bought it in February. Yikes. It's a fully loaded one with a stick - only one I could find in the state, and I got a great deal on it to boot. As far as a 4cyl Ranger goes...bah! It would be a 3.0 at a minimum, and more likely the 4.0...

    What do I want?

See? I hadn't thought of that. It's an idea, but it also sounds like kind of a pain in the ass - I dunno, maybe it wouldn't be. I know the XJ's rated to tow 5000lbs, but that seems like a lot to me with such a short wheelbase...

    What do I want?

So. In addition to my regular daily driver (an '08 Mazda3 hatch), I have a '74 Ford F350 Supercab 2WD monster that I love, and my '87 Renix XJ that I...well, I guess I'm more ambivalent about it than I thought I'd be. I live out in the country, so I use the truck for runs to the hardware store...

    Sudden racing neutral

I should clarify that the "floored throttle" part of the equation occurred until I turned the Jeep off, both times. Like, the tranny seemed to suddenly shift to neutral, the engine started racing, and I took my foot off the gas completely, and the engine still was racing toward redline, but the...
