I don't know if it makes a difference, but when the engine is cold it idle's at about 800 rpm. Chris

    Replacing Manifold Gasket (88 4.0)

I didn't realize the gasket was such a pain to replace so I'll do some more checking. The IAC seams to be ok, I replaced with a used one and there was no change. I snugged up the manifold bolts early on, in the process and again there was no change. I'll double check the vacum system, I can't...

    Replacing Manifold Gasket (88 4.0)

CCV harness - Is that the vacum harness, if so it was new about 10,000 miles ago & is in good shape. I also cleaned the throttle body & checked the TPS when I first started dealing with the high idle.

    Replacing Manifold Gasket (88 4.0)

I am replacing the manifold gasket on my 88 with a 4.0 due to a suspected vacum leak. I idles at about 1250 and occasionally when I start it it wants to rev at about 2500. Is it possible to unbolt the manifolds & slip in a new gasket without removing all of the stuff bolted to the manifolds...

84 2.8 Power loss when warm

This has been happening since I got the Jeep, and I can't gaurentee the vacuum lines were routed correctly when I got it, the P.O tried to fix the problem. It will idle when warm, so I'll try pushing down on the rod when I get home. I thought it might be starving for fuel, & that is why I...

84 2.8 Power loss when warm

The lower idle is not the problem, but a symptom. When the engine warms up, it is like the power is switched off. The idle lowers, & the engine bogs down, sluggish is a major understatement. The engine takes longer to rev up, and backfires even in neutral. It happens all at once, as if the...

84 2.8 Power loss when warm

I thought that O2 sensors were only used on fuel injected engines, this one has a carb. Chris

84 2.8 Power loss when warm

When my 84 warms up (after 15 min or so of driving) something happens that causes idle to drop & it barely has enough power to get off the road. I have fixed the vaccum leaks, changed the carb, fuel pump, plugs & pcv. Any ideas would help. Thanks, Chris

Why not just use some washers to lock the shift fork in place? It's cheap, and will hold until your axle swap. Chris

Checkout this website, it has lots of good links, including one to a company that modifies the harness to run the fuel injection standalone. Another Freaking Jeep Cherokee Website Chris

    Going from 2wd to 4wd

The swap is pretty straight forward. I did it last Nov. or so with no suprises, and without an impact wrench. The only thing I did that made it signifigantly easier was to soak each bolt/nut in liquid wrench every night for about a week befor the swap. The two bolts that gave me the most...

    Oil Leak

The oil filter screws on to an adapter. The adapter is attached to the block with a special bolt. In the adapter there are three o-rings; One at the block (largest), One under the washer on the bolt, & one (the smallest) around the bolt about half way down. They do leak, I had a tough time...

    XJ Drive train compatibility

I confused, did I miss something? What year is the prospective donner? I thought the 2.8 was only available in 84-86. If it is a 1990 it should have either the 2.4 - 4 cyl or the 4.0 - 6 cyl. Chris
