    2.8 won't cruise...

My 86 XJ has a 2.8 V6. So far it's been great; reliable, economical (25 mpg) BUT... Last time I took it on the highway it started to hesitate and cut out once I would hit 60. Didn't matter if it was in 4th or 5th. Lots of hesitating. If I dropped speed things would smooth out. Fuel pump...

    Weber 32/36 conversion

Hi folks Fed up with the Varajet on my 2.8 V6, and heard that webers are the way. I've got one coming, and am wondering if anyone knows whether they need an adapter to bolt to the manifold of the 2.8. Anyone who has done this and would care to share about the experience, please let me know if...

    BOOM!

I could use some help... Blew the muffler off my 86 today. She'd refused to start after I had driven, turned off for five minutes, and tried to re-start. It would start for literally a second or 2, then die totally. Repeated efforts to restart filled the muffler with fumes, and :explosionBANG...

    retro-fit fun

Has anyone ever thought of tossing a 2.5 in their XJ?(if there wasn't one there already, I mean!) My '86 has a 2.8, and I figure a well built 2.5 wouldn't be any worse power wise than the tired old V6. Would it be a nightmare to plonk a 2.5 in there, especially an FI one? Would it still mate to...

    high idle help!

My '86 2.8L XJ is acting all funny. It's now -20 where I live, and the heap starts and idles fine. However, once it's warmed up, it idles at around 1500 rpm. I've checked the choke to make sure it's operating correctly, and it appears to be fine. It was running well when it was warmer, so I'm...

What repair manual do you prefer?

Going to be diving into the "new" XJ for the first time, and wouldn't mind having a good manual handy. So what's the must have for jeepnuts? Haynes? Chilton? Or should I just go at it and hope for the best:greensmok...
