    Nuts in a jam...please help

Here's one for ya- So I'm replacing my front hubs and the damn rental torque wrench I'm using takes a dump and doesn't click...nothing. So I'm quite positive I've overtorqued on of my hubs. I then removed the nut and retightened using my 150 ft/lb torque wrench. I gave it a little extra...

Stumble/Misfire on first start of the day

Like the title says, it stumbles/misfires on the first start of the day, usually within 30 seconds of starting and only for about 5-10 seconds. Happens regardless of shift position and engine loading. I'm assuming it has something to do with the fuel system. It's a 98, stock, 154,000 mi...

    Rotella T builds sludge?

I'm opening a big can of worms I'm sure... I heard today that Rotella T, with regular usage, may lead to increased sludge build up in a gasoline engine. (I'm assuming in the oil pan) I was under the impression that Rotella T did the opposite in that the increased level of detergents in the...

    Spark Plug Wires

Does it matter what length wire is used to connect to a given plug. What I mean is, if the length of the wire that was removed and replaced with a new wire of differing length, does this matter? Does it affect timing of fire? I understand that the electrical current travels at the speed of...

    Transfer case grinding

So here's my situation: My transfer case is making noise, and it's been getting worse. Above 55 mph or so, under acceleration, there's a bit of a rumble that I feel in the car more than I hear. From what I can hear however, it is a mechanical vibration/noise. It all but disappears when I let...

    Rear bearing lube

When replacing the rear axle bearings of a '98 cryco 8.25", do you have to lube the bearings with anything other than diff oil? And even then not a whole lot b/c the oil from the pumpkin will lube once full?!?!

    Tire Pressure

I believe this still falls into the OEM tech... I upped the tire size to 235 75 15...I know, big deal. The sticker on the door(the one for tire pressure) reads 33 psi for 215 75 15. Should I use 33 psi for my new 235 tires? Or something else?

    electric fan

Does anyone know if the electric fan is somehow linked to the air conditioning. My A/C has a leaky coil and as such doesn't work. But it seems lately that my electric fan does not kick in anymore. So, are they related or do I have another item to put on the ever-growing to do list?

    Progressive coils-opinions?!?!

Anybody have any opinions on progressive rate springs over straight-rate coils? I'm looking to get GC springs for my XJ and it seems that progressive or variable rate springs seem to be cheaper than straight-rate coils, any particular reason for this? Should I avoid them? Thanks, John

    Shell Rotella T

I'm gonna get yelled at, buy aw hell here goes nothing... I've read the 17 page thread on 'your oil recommendation'-very insightful, however, I'm having a difficult time breaking out of my owner's manual mentality. It recommends no heavier than a 10W 30 oil, I'm seriously considering shell's...

    brakes and grease...

As the name implies... I got a damn dab of grease on the friction side of one of my pads...time for new pad or no big deal? Can I clean it off with brake cleaner-I've never used it before so I don't know. the 'dab' is about the size of the top of an eraser on a pencil. I rested the caliper...

    Track bar-axle mount

When mounting a new trackbar onto the axle mount, (I am using the poly bushing with a metal sleeve shorter than the bushing) is it permissable to allow the mounting point to pinch the bushing rather than the metal sleeve. Let me elaborate: with all other bushings: LCA, UCA, ETC., the...

    Front end fun :)

I posted this elsewhere so if it's repetitious, I apologize... because of the help I received thus far, I ask this: SO here's the situation: had the beginnings of DW about a year back, so I began replacing front end components to try to remedy the situation. Started with the trackbar, then...

HELP! New steering box = no power steering!!!

HELP! I just installed a new (reman'd) steering box, all went well with the install...or so I thought. As I was driving the heep to the parts store to drop off the rented tools, my steering got progressively worse, to the point where, on the way home the wheels felt like they were being...

    control arms

Hey-do you guys think it will work with q-tec lower control arms with their rubber bushings and Moog problem solver (poly-like) bushing on the upper arms? I've recently installed the arms as stated above and my wobble has only gotten worse, much worse than it was before. I'm wondering one...
