I took it to a couple transmission shops for their "free" diagnostic service and neither could help. I don't know what to look for. I've searched and found the TCU might be bad. I bought a used one on ebay and I 'thought' it started to work again but acted up almost immediately.
I've also...
I spent a couple days searching but couldn’t find what I needed. Hopefully this post will help.
I’ve had trouble with my transmission ‘slipping’ lately. It only occurs from a stop (and of course, is intermittent), otherwise the XJ runs just fine. I’ve narrowed down the problem…the...
Yes, I searched.
This started a couple weeks ago and after searching the forums, I decided it would be a good idea to replace the TPS. After doing so it drove better, but it has started up again. It’s like the transmission isn’t engaging and just slips with only partial power getting to the...
Through my search this looks like one of the better units out there. Am I wrong? Anyone with a tad more experience now want to share some insight?
My manifold is cracked and I need to bolt a new one on there.
Thanks!
It just started. It sounds fine while cruising or accelerating, but once I pull my foot off the gas I get a moderate vibration and fairly loud rumble noise. It also sounds bad under very slight acceleration. It almost sounds like a big truck using compression braking in another lane. The...
Here’s the deal (yes, I searched).
When starting out (from a stop) with the wheel turned (either direction) I get a shimmy. The steering wheel pretty much pulses side-to-side. I took the XJ (’98) to a local alignment shop and they said that I need new: ball joints (upper & lower, both...
I have a 15A fuse that keeps blowing out (for the fuel pump I believe) and I’ve had enough. It doesn’t happen every day (or even every week) but the whole Jeep dies when it does. I’m tired of going through fuses and I’m not much for electrical repairs.
Can anyone recommend a local shop that...
I've only been in the NW for a few months so I don't know a lot of places here. My front door has a busted hinge and I need a cheap fix. Of course I want good quality, but a low price is very important. Should just be a simple weld job right?
Anyone have a shop they can point me to? Price...
Under the hood, on passenger side. I don't know what the fuse goes to, but it blows quite often now. It used to happen once in a while when I went into reverse, but now it happens while driving. I blew 3 fuses on the way to work this morning. I don't have a service manual with me, it's in CA...
Everything was great on the way there. Parked and went boarding a few hours, came back and as I was driving away felt as if one of the rear tires was locked up. Hit a bump and everything broke loose (sounded like something fell off, maybe ice)...pulled over and part of my NEW BFG 235/75/15 AT...
I went to Napa and they mentioned two different part #'s for the joints. They gave one number (forgot - sorry) for the double cardan joint on the front driveshaft and 5-153X for (x1) front driveshaft and (x2) rear driveshaft. Someone else on Naxja mentioned I just need (x5) of the 5-153X...
So, I am driving along and everything seems fine. I pull into a driveway and put the XJ into reverse...DEAD! The engine just dies on me. This was at night so I couldn't see well. I walked about a mile to a local store and got myself a flashlight, turns out one of the 15 amp fuses in the PDC...
I need an alignment, but not sure if the ball joints should be fixed also. I have nothing that indicates they need replacing, just thinking ahead. Would the alignment have to be re-done after the ball joints? As I have searched, it seems like they only affect camber and that's not adjustable...
I just ordered some BFG AT KO's so I have this set of tires to unload. They are a no-name off the shelf brand, not sure who, but probably Costco or something. They were put on the XJ a day before I picked it up from a local dealer. These tires have ~6k miles of mostly freeway driving from here...
Getting BFG AT KO's from America's Tire. They want ~$60 for all 4 tires to have their "no questions asked" warranty. Is this worth it? It's mostly for street, but some offroading (~6x a year) will be done also.
My OEM cables are pretty hosed...I'm lucky the damn thing still starts. :)
I was checking these out, but they're pretty $$$! Any alternatives?
