I've got the exact symtoms on my 92 (206K miles). I'm hoping its a front axle ujoint. You could pull your front drive shaft, drive without it for awhile, and see if you still have the problem. If you do, that will eliminate the xfer case.(I haven't made time to do this on mine yet) Let us...
could also be the electrical portion of the ignition switch located at the base of the steering column. Pin B of that switch failed on my 92 and took out the radio, A/C and a few other seemingly unrelated things I don't recall right now. The Jeep started up and ran fine though.
my 92 does the occasionally does the same thing. (Knocks and misses like it lost cyclinder) but the problem goes away if turn the engine off and restart.
Anybody know what causes this?
The nut turned about a half turn to get it up to 110 ft. lbs. per the FSM. Still have play though.
Matt, did you have a vibration problem with that loose nut?
Thank to both of you for your help.

I've got a driveline vibration that goes away with the front shaft out. The shaft has been balanced. The transfer case yoke will move in and out about an 1/8". Is that acceptable? Couldn't find a spec in the FSM or other posts here. Does anybody have the tolerances?

My 92 has 180k on the original cat. While I was having the muffler & tailpipe replaced at a local shop I saw a sign on the wall that read something like this,
"The catalytic converter on your car should never go bad. If it does, something else has caused this to happen and should be fixed...
Hey Digger, way to go! :worship: How did you know they were bad? How many miles were on them and what kind of mounts did you use to replace them? I'm thinkin' maybe my 180K miles rig might need them too. Thanks!
I did the tranfusion to AMSOIL ATF on my 92 which had 170K miles on it at the time. That was about 9 months and 5k miles ago ( now at 175K). Didn't notice any changes at all in performance (shifting or gas mileage) and also don't have any leaks.
Even though I found some Epoxy rated for 3500 psi and 500 degrees, I still chickened out and bought a rebuilt for $60. New hoses too. Thanks for the input!
Yep, busted the return tube that goes into the power steering reservior. Has anybody had success glueing it back on? And if so, what'd you use? (can't buy just the reservior, of course)
