A couple of years ago I saw some advice on this forum that it was prudent to do a pre-imptave strike on CPS's and just replace them at 70,000 miles. Fast forward to yesterday. My 99 that had always started on about the 2nd revolution died in my driveway - crank and crank and not a lick of...
My 99 Clasic 4.0 cuts out for a couple of seconds if I make a hard left turn (90 degrees at 15 mph) when I have less than 1/4 tank of gas (never had it happen with a full tank). I'm afraid the answer is going to be "Fuel pump screen / filter /pickup" or some such but I thought I'd see if...
Not much cheaper than dealer, but you might check out:
http://www.berryautos.com/mopar.htm
They have the factory parts catalog available in PDF which is kinda useful.
(I've gotten some stuff from them, and was satisfied with the service.)
I think they only do their auto adjust thing when you back up and apply the brakes. Another thing, if the jeep has been exposed to salt, you might want to consider replacing the other brake bits and peices (other than the shoes). My '99 spent the first years of it's life in upstate New York...
I seem to remember if you checked it with the engine off and it's hot, it will show high. I beleive the drill is "check while hot, idleing in neutral, after running thru all the gears".
Amen to all the "keep the shield" advice. If you watch this forum regularly, about once a month some poor soul shows up with a tale of woe about sending his alternator to the great rebuilder in the sky because he packed it with mud because of the absense of this shield. BTW. the one they used...
Don't know if the '92 had a splash shield (my '99 did - rotted and falling apart when I got it - new one was <much better> quality) but this is exactly the kind of mess the shield should prevent. If you get the alternator going again (good luck...) you might want to get one (about $30) before...
Recently, my drivers side power window has started making a loud "stripping gear" sort of noise when it gets to the fully closed position (fully up). I couldn't find anything about limit switches in the FSM so I assume this is built into the regulator assembly. Is there any fixing this sort of...
Had the exact same problem on my '99. Here's what I found the cause to be and how I fixed it:
The defrost vent door is connected to the vaccum actuator with a little platsic thingee that has a star shaped shaft that had slipped out of the vent door shaft. The only thing that holds this part...
99 XJ (box stock) with 42k miles. Started hearing 1: a low speed grinding noise from the front, 2: a slight vibration when turning at 30- 40 mph and 3: a "clunk" when slowly backing up and turning the wheel. (like when backing out of a parking space - happens only in reversa and either when...
