Just to get it out there, make sure the bulbs are correct and not internally shorted. An 1156 jammed into an 1157 socket can cause this type of failure. Similarly, if the bulb is shorted internally, it will cause the same thing.
Is the remix egr on ported vacuum or solenoid control? If ported, the source hose connected to the wrong port may cause this issue.on a similar note, a leaking control solenoid can cause the same thing.
If you don't have emissions inspections, just stick with blocking it off.
My ax5 would do this when the clutch hydraulics were failing. Check the inside of the firewall at the master cylinder for brake fluid running down the wall. (And possibly into your fuse box if it is old enough...lol)
You may want to check the starter bolts themselves. When the engine warms up the expansion may cause the case to loosen on the block interrupting the starter ground.
I hope that the wheel cylinder was replaced. That much catastrophic damage is a safety hazard.

A plugged injector will sound muffled through the stethoscope, while an operational one will have a metallic click. I would also suggest a compression test, just to rule out engine mechanical issues.
the safest bet is to buy the refrigerant without any additives and buy a seperate can of refrigerant dye. I seem to recall interdynamics offering a 2oz can of dye/refrigerant with a standard can tap.
The post cat sensor does affect fuel economy more than people realize. Furthermore, improper fuel control can cause catalyst melt down, obstructing exhaust, and on more than one occasion, rendering the truck undriveable. YRMV
It's a bit more involved than that. But the theory is sound. The 96 fi and ignition systems are different than the 2000. And it's not entirely backwards compatible. Research Research research.
