Apparently I can't edit my posts.
If anyone comes across this in the future with the same issue, the connectors are different for the speed sensor and backup lights. There are the same number of pins, and it looks like you can just wire in a new plug. Napa has pigtail connectors available...
Save me from my lack of pre-project research.
I converted a '99 auto 2WD to manual 4x4 using the guts from a rolled '97. Swapped over everything including ECU, and it runs and drives but I have some unresolved issues.
The main issue is the speedo output on the back of the t-case is different...
***DISREGARD - Figured it out. Please delete. ***
I'm in the middle of replacing the heater core on my '99 XJ. When I removed the heater core from the blower box, a small plastic part came out with the core and fell on the table. I cannot figure out for the life of me where this thing goes...
I agree. I don't think it destroys seals or anything, I just think it does such a fine job of cleaning all the nooks and crannies that it unplugs whatever is plugged. I'm seriously leaking from everywhere...
Floorboards look okay other than having a couple of inches of water in them. Pinch seam looks correct and clear.
I think if I plug the leaks into the interior, she'll be okay. Ordered a new heater core and all new hvac gaskets. Going to tear into the dash and get this fixed right.
I feel...
Re: Re: looking for suggestions on oil fliter and oil.
I van attest to this; mine is bleeding out from every orifice after three months of Mobile One. Replacing RMS, valve cover gasket, and filter adapter orings this weekend.
I think it was wrecked and half-assed repaired on that corner. Frame is straight but that door is a little tight. Its actually dripping between the sill and the floor pan.
There are so many little problems with this thing, it may be time to cut my losses and sell it.
I have a '99 and a steep driveway. Normally I park facing uphill, but I backed in today to hook up a trailer. A few minutes later, a surprising amount of water was running out behind the right front wheel. I'd somewhat expect this if it had rained or I'd been running the A/C, but it hasn't...
So I was pondering this and google-ing around, and I came across Hella's relay box ( http://www.amazon.com/Hella-H84988007-4-Way-Relay-Packaged/dp/B000VUEDXY)
Its actually made by MTA (so it says on the box and molded into the legs)
Research got me to their website - they're Italian, but have...
The alternator idea is wholly unworkable.
You're taking in chemical energy in the form of gasoline, converting it to mechanical energy with the engine, converting it to electrical energy with the alternator, then back to mechanical with the electric motor. Each conversion causes a loss of...
You must search, young Padawan.
That said, I'm about to do the same...here are the Cliff's Notes:
You CAN convert a 2wd transmission to 4wd, but it involves a complete teardown of the transmission - you can't just swap tail shafts. Just buy a 4wd tranny and see your 2wd.
All brakes...
I've found a couple here locally - one for $1200, but the woman flaked on me before I could check it out.
I'm just going to convert the one I've got. The local pick-n-pull has a '98 I can swipe the tranny / t-case off of for $275, figure $300 out the door with shifter, linkage, etc.
Just...
Crossmember is already removed, as are both driveshafts. The entire drivetrain is hanging by motor mounts only. I'm doing this for a 2WD-4X4 conversion on my '99, so I need to grab the shifter, linkage, etc as well. I guess I'm going to separate the transfer case from the tranny so I can get...
I'm about to go pull the AW4 and 231 out of a '98 XJ at the yard. Can anyone suggest what tools I should have with me to make sure I get it done the first trip? This place is probably 15 miles away, I don't want to be making second trips for tools.
While I'm asking noobish questions - Will a...
Call Dirk @ DPG Offroad (http://www.dpgoff-road.com/) with OME questions. Tell him what you want and he'll get you the best setup to match. Really, I've never heard anything but great things about DPG. I spoke with him a month or so ago, and he was very helpful.
