    More soft brake issues

I'd suggest not doing the ram master cylinder unless you've figured out how to fit a larger booster. I'm using the ram master with a dual diaphragm booster. Front brakes are Ford d60 dual piston, rears are e350 d60 disc. My pedal is high and hard. I love the feel. It gives the illusion of good...

    241OR swap in a 2000XJ

Thanks for all the input. I found my issue - one of the studs is bent and that's why it's not lining up with the trans. I just need to double nut it, back it out, replace with one out of the 231, and I should be good to go.

    241OR swap in a 2000XJ

Good question, but I'm pretty sure it's the right spline count. I do have a '91 so I wondered about that. I counted the splines on the case that came out and got 23 both times, so I think I'm good. Splines engage juuust enough that if the case is in gear and the trans is in neutral, the trans...

    241OR swap in a 2000XJ

Any tips beyond this? Bench pressing this thing and and trying to wiggle it into place solo isn't going so well. I can get it up and just barely started, but it won't slide into place. I'm thinking of grabbing a harbor freight transmission jack. Seems like that would make it pretty easy, right?

Need an Early Style Rear Hatch and Taillights

PM sent to protonvx. Des Moines is too far for me. Too bad, because I kind of think baby blue would look real nice on my grey jeep. Thanks for the offer though.

Need an Early Style Rear Hatch and Taillights

Anyone have a hatch for the older body style they'd sell me? I wouldn't mind a set of taillights too if they're cheap. Thanks.

Rolled 99 XJ - headed to scrap

I have a rolled 99 Cherokee that's been sitting for a couple years and I'll probably be hauling it off for scrap soon. But before I do, you're welcome to grab anything off it you might need. No need for payment. Located in Stockbridge, MI

    Important

I need a piece check on an 8.8. I'd like to sell it for a fair price. Ballpark what are these things worth? 31 spline, disc brakes, XJ perches and shock mounts welded on, Aussie locker, 4.88 gears, ruffstuff cover, brakes are in good shape. But it's been sitting for a little while so new...

    Bundy Hill, Michigan. 11/4/17

I'm planning on showing up for a couple hours of wheeling. It's close to home so I won't be camping.

Just joking around. Bundy is more or less a sand and gravel pit. :)

    Bundy Hill, Michigan. 11/4/17

Sure he wasn't talking about Bundy? We'll probably make this. Just for the day though. Close enough to home we won't be camping. I need another crack at that rock staircase thing.

    Bundy Hill, Michigan. 11/4/17

Re: Rocks and Valleys, Michigan. 11/4/17 Major bummer. I think I might try to get up there October 28 instead.

    Bundy Hill, Michigan. 11/4/17

Re: Rocks and Valleys, Michigan. 11/4/17 We're planning to camp Friday night at rocks and valleys. Will give Ron a call to make sure that's okay. Head back Saturday evening. Website says closed in November. Not accurate?

    Project "Constructive Deconstruction"

You should be. Everything worked really well. And thanks for letting me have a couple minutes in the driver's seat.

    Pattern Check

Thanks for checking me. I went ahead with final assembly. Pattern didn't change, backlash didn't change. Preload is at the upper limit of spec, but I'm okay with that.

    Pattern Check

With the extra .003" added to the inner pinion shim. Preload 15-20 in-lbs, backlash .006"-.007". Anyone recommend setting backlash a hair tighter? I'm thinking the pattern looks good.

    Pattern Check

I thought it looked a little deep, so I took .006" out of the inner pinion shims. Reset preload to 15 in-lbs and backlash to .005-.006. Now looks a little shallow to me. Going try adding .003 back to the inner pinion shims.

    Pattern Check

Moved some carrier shims. Backlash now right about .005". Drive:

    Pattern Check

I need a little input on this pattern please. Dana 60 rear. Vehicle will be almost completely trail only. I'll probably do 15 mile drives to work for break in and maybe 20 mile drives to the lake once or twice in the summer. Other than that, trail only. Pinion bearing preload is about 15 in-lbs...

    Welded Diff Pics, Run It?

If you have the option of just throwing a $200 spool in, I'd go that route. For me I think the only 32 spline option is an ARB. So it was either do this, or add the cost of 35 spline shafts. That makes welding a pretty decent cost savings. I don't think many people running welded are regularly...
