Ok all, I just replaced the clutch assy on my 96 XJ 4.0 thinking the growling sound I was hearing was a TO bearing. Much to my surprise after getting the trans back in ( I dont care how many times you do it, its still not fun) I have the same issue, I can lay under the Jeep and feel the trans...

Anybody happen to know a good online source for the bolts holding the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel ? I dont have time during the week to get to a dealership. Thanks in advance

Sorry to bump this back up guys, but I need help. Of all the things Ive done to my XJ, I cant believe this one is kicking my arse. :doh: And on a side note, dont ever think your too experienced to just rip the brakes apart and rebuild by memory, pay the friggin core charge and do em 1 side...

A piece of S**T with a lifetime warranty is still just a piece of S**T ... :laugh3: Imo, its worth paying an extra 20 bucks to not have to replace the part 3 times a year .....

Just did the brakes on my 96, and they are a 13 mm socket to remove the bolts, fairly positive the 97 is the same.

Well, imo, and dont take it to heart you hardcore Autozone fans, but your first mistake was Autozone :laugh3: Not sure if you have yet, but try a Napa, it has been my experience, many, many times, that the guys and gals at Napa are the ones to see. Autozone is great if you need off the shelf...

Hmmm, cant say I have ever seen an air filter catch fire :wierd: After you pulld the air cleaner, and started it again, how long did it smoke and what color was the smoke ??

Does anybody have a drum brake diagram for a 96 XJ ??? Been a while I guess and I dont quite remember how they go together :wierd: The Haynes manual shows the older style in the write up, and they are a bit different. If anybody has that erra Xj and is willing to snap a digital pic and send...

Ok, just got my new flex jointed Exhaust Manifold and am planning on swapping it in tomorrow, this being one thing I have not done yet on my XJ, I was wondering if there are any problems known that I can expect. Thanks

Its often times called a rod coupling as well. Most hardware stores should carry them.

Hmm, doubt its related to the new headlights, sounds like a short somewhere, I think I would start with the headlight switch cause chasing wire shorts is a pita. Wish I could help you more, good luck.

If anybody has an Exhaust manifold and/or a front prop shaft for a 96 XJ 4.0 man trans please let me know what you would like for it shipped, if its in the Buena Park or Barstow Ca. area, I can probably pick it up. Thanks in advance :)

I agree, NAPA would be my choice, but if your worried about quality, get the "premium" one, alot of times they sell the good stuff and a cheap shatty one like other places just to stay in competition.

In the automotive industry its actually called a pre-heater hose.

Sure will, thats what Im doing now, it ,leans a little, and you wont get as many turns on the center nut that holds it in there, but it fits and is not a view obstruction, but it still takes up some extra room.

Im looking for some grey interior trim pieces, I need em all, and maybe the dash, glove box door and rear hatch panel. If anybody is parting one out let me know. Its all going in my wifes 89 XJ...she doesnt like the tan... :helpme:
