    Vibration @ 70 MPH...

@buytick: That's what's driving me nuts! I can't really be without a car, but my next option is to send out my rear prop shaft for balancing. I'd love to be able to remove it and test drive it first, but 70+ in front wheel drive doesn't sound too safe or good for the t-case.

    Vibration @ 70 MPH...

I am a technician at a Honda dealership with a Hunter road force balancer. The tires are fine. And as I already stated I used tires from a '99 that doesn't shake. I even drove that '99 with my tires and it still didn't shake.

    Vibration @ 70 MPH...

Everything is tight in the front end. Maybe I'm just nuts :wierd:

    Vibration @ 70 MPH...

I've yet to have my wife help with checking the trackbar. Hopefully she'll help me tonight. I can only get the full cast rotors now. Mopar and aftermarket don't offer the composite style anymore :( I'm not getting the dreaded "death wobble", just a bad vibration. It's been there for a while...

    Vibration @ 70 MPH...

Kinda dumb question... Could being centered by the lug nuts, and not the hub cause this issue? The '98 came with the composite rotors, I have the full cast which have thicker hats. Since I put the cast rotors on a long time ago I found that the hub center doesn't reach the center hole of the...

Power Window Fix? (Not window regulator)

Gotta go with Tim_MN on this one. There should be NO teeth grinding noises at all. I have NEVER seen ANY XJ with an auto up feature either, only down. If I were you I'd replace the driver's master switch and regulator. Both easy repairs.

    96 XJ starts slowly

I ran into this recently on a co-worker's '00. With '96-up being OBDII the misfire codes pointed right to the leaking #2 and 3 injectors. Long cranking time, and stumble for a few seconds after starting. Ran fine otherwise.

    Power steering

Could be worn vanes in your pump. With the engine at idle/decel it'll put out less pressure. I have a '98 and I can feel a difference during the same maneuvers you are describing.

    Ball joint or not

I agree with 8Mud. If they are tight, try greasing them and working them back and forth. I've seen the u-joints cause that type of binding also.

    Vibration @ 70 MPH...

I've road force balanced the tires, all good. Like I said, I tried tires and wheels from my dad's '99 non-vibrating Jeep. I even tested my tires and wheels on his. Wheel bearings are tight and noise free. Alignment is perfect. Ball joints are tight and well greased. I found a TSB that applies...

    Vibration @ 70 MPH...

Been having a vibration at highway speeds for a while now, it's getting worse though. The steering wheel starts to vibrate at 65, then the front end starts to shake at 70, and at 75 it's back to a steering wheel vibration. It's a stock '98 Sport, 4.0L, 5-Speed, 3.07 gears, 231 T-case, 235/75R15...

AX-15 hard to shift when hot.

Went driving around a lot last night trying to :gee: (beat the crap out of it). No change. Guess I'll have to crack it open and check/replace the synchros. Oh well. Hey Lawsoncl! That Amsoil test article was very informative. Thanks, definitely a good read!

AX-15 hard to shift when hot.

Well, I'm experimenting with Honda Genuine Manual Transmission Fluid as I now work at a Honda dealer and it's basically free to me. I checked that Red Line MT90, and it seems to be the same as the Honda stuff. I'll let you all know how it goes. If it can handle the abuse of a turbocharged...

AX-15 hard to shift when hot.

Sorry that I forgot "the basics" Joe Peters. It's a stock '98 4.0L (the only engine that had the AX-15:paper:) with 130K and I just replaced the t-case. The shifting problem started well before I replaced it though. The clutch is fully releasing.

AX-15 hard to shift when hot.

I've searched the net for the correct fluid for the AX-15 and have seen many posts about a Red Line fluid. Many people complain about cold weather shifting into 2nd. My complaint is when the tranny is at "operating temp." It gets hard to shift into any gear directly :banghead: It's especially...

Rear hatch - universal for all year XJ's?

I stood behind our troops the whole time. I just never stood behind their former boss:jester:.

    Diff fluid capacity on 8.25

The 8.25 is about 2.5qts, and the D30 should be about 1.5qts. I would recommend 75W-140 synthetic. I usually get it from the BG rep that comes to where I work.

Coolant gauge sending unit part #?

:worship:You are a God! Thank you!!! I just got off the phone with another dealer and he gave me the same #. Thank you again!

Coolant gauge sending unit part #?

I got a friend with a '96 4.0L. His coolant temp gauge isn't working. It's got 12V at the one wire connector, but an open circuit through the sensor. Does anyone know the OE part number for the sending unit. NOT the one in the thermostat housing, the one on the left rear corner of the head. I...

Cash for Clunkers... no more (as of friday)!

Umm, have any of you actually read that article??? There are talks about suspending it until they get more money approved. If I know our f'ed up government, this isn't the end. Hey Obama, KISS IT:moon:. Oh ya, keep the "Change." "Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your...
