I have an '88 jeep Cherokee with a 231 xfer case. I am moving to Florida from Colorado and would like to sell these things (not much in the way of rocks in Florida).
The transfer case skid WILL NOT fit a NP249!
The stats from the website:
Transfer case - NEW PRICE is $100 - Our transfer...
I am (after a whirlwind 9 year tour from Ga, to WA, to CO) moving back to the south. My girl and I both got great jobs in West Palm Beach. I know there isn't much as far as wheeling is concerned but thought I'd check to see if any members live that far down the line. I guess I can stop wedling...
Time to dust off the soapbox for a moment...
History - Father an architect- brought up believing that why buy it if you can build it.
New hobby - have transferred that upbringing into carpentry and home restoration always as a creative outlet (business development/ Economist by trade). Started...
Anyone recommend any particular books as far as suspension, frame/cages and the such.
Guess I am looking for technical discussions on strength, stress points and suspension theories/engineering.
Got a clunk, like the d30 is loose. Mostly on bumps, turning, applying brakes.
I did do a search and actually went through everything I could and didn't find anything. Searching for a clunk on this board brings up a LOT!
I have gotten under with a large screwdriver and pushed and pryed on all...
Just wanted to say thanks to beezil and others that posted to a thread I started months ago when I initially started looking for a welder to start a home fab shop business on the side. Input was great and I took the advice of save up and get the most welder you can for the money. Did that...
I've got 4.5 inches of lift and a adjustable track bar. I seem to continue getting slop up front where I can feel it in my floor board as a slight clunking. I have put in a rebuilt steering box and power steering pump as they both needed to be replaced and it felt great for a couple of weeks but...
In my quest for bumper/tow points/fab equipment I decided to ask around and see who might have a used welder I could buy and for how much.
I found someone with a used Lincoln MIG 110v? Probably the light duty 135 I think. Anyway they'll let me have it for $250 with everything all I need to get...
Realized that the one must have that I am missing to participate with everyone is tow points. I have been saving up for a bumper but time wise something like that won't be ready in time. I know that there are kits out there like rusty's but I don't want to spend HALF of what it would cost for a...
about going. Haven't really made any plans and was wondering if I just drove out there are there campsites/ camping that can be found or would I need to reserve something. Wouldn't be the first time I use the XJ Tent and sleep in the back if I'm too late for plans.
A long shot but, anyone...
Pulled the carpet up in the rear of the XJ for a couple reasons:
1) Put the rear Flares back on after trimming the fenders
2) When I lived in Seattle and the roads were frequently wet the rear carpet would get wet
Low and behold the jeep was in a wreck before I owned it as the right rear...
Got a rebuilt steering box about six months ago. The end on the axle side from the pitman arm has worn out twice and noticed the steering box is bad now (maybe it was before just now checked it). Not a problem as the box was rebuilt with warranty but I wonder if there is something wrong with my...
Two questions:
1) need to replace my motor mounts and I wondered does anyone have product reccomendations? (M.O.R.E., etc.)
2) Can I just put wood under the oil pan and jack the block up a little from there or will I need a crane?
Any insight would be appreciated!
I read through all the posts regarding trimming fenders and using tj flares or reusing xj flares but I don't see anything on reattaching them. It looks to me like the would have no room to drill. Do you just rivet these back on or is there something that I am missing?
Anyone have any homebrew alternatives to a frame rack? I have a crinkle in the right rear frame from the tow package being pushed downward. Shock, sping, right side lower/ compressed. Body shop said not a problem but $300.
Got to be some simple yet horribly dangerous fix I can do...
Tried getting my XJ up over a rock embankment, around 6 foot tall. Got up and ALMOST over, front locker would of had it.
Anyway, beat up the right rear stock bumper a little as well as bent the tailpipe a little as the jeep got stuck on its' butt while in the air.
The right rear side sags now...
Ok my technical peers, a brain teaser for the first of the week
