    Damage to Jeep - questions.

Hey guys - long time no see! We tumped our XJ on its side in a low-speed accident (super bummer), and unfortunately while it's still running/driving, have decided to sell it (and the upgrades on it) to fund my brother's trip to Nicaragua this fall to help with water projects in small communities...

    Tail Lights?!

OK, new development: Pulling the headlight switch half a click out and holding it there, we get parking lights and gauge lights. At one full click, where we're supposed to get parking/gauge lights, we get nothing. Holding it at one and a half clicks we again get parking/gauge lights, but then...

    Tail Lights?!

What? What? is my little bro, and he just replaced the headlight switch with a new one, but still no parking/running lights at either 'click one' or 'click two' on the headlight switch. Strangely enough, if he holds it between clicks one and two the parking lights come on, but if he is at click...

    How does this happen??

The fork pads were fine, and everything else (bearings, etc) seemed fine as well. I'm thinking that things still got 'splash lubrication' to keep them OK. IS the TC oil pump just for when in 4wd, or is it constantly oiling everything? Actually, what is it specifically giving oil to? It seems...

    How does this happen??

True...I've replaced all the bearings that don't require the 'special tool,' and since it was rebuilt before and the other bearings feel good, I think I'll be OK. I'm still baffled as to what would cause the oil pump splines that match up with the mainshaft splines to just shear off...any ideas?

    How does this happen??

I'm rebuilding my Transfer case (NP231, 95 xj 4.0, 4wd, 173K) simply because I had to take it out anyway to change the tranny. I wasn't noticing any problems with it besides a very small leak. Upon cracking it open I notice that there aren't any spines on the inside of the oil pump drive gear...

For the Love of Pete! Fire Hazard!

Well, I've currently got everything from the flywheel back out of the Jeep (replacing transmission, rebuilding transfer case), so while I've got room in there I'm going to cut out the rusty areas and do some floor panel fixing and get rid of the problem altogether. YOu guys that did the Airbake...

    I need an FSM

I googled for about 15 minutes, using various terms to find the 1995 FSM. I downloaded it and voila, after a little Acrobat magic have the full FSM in one doc, searchable and all! What year are you looking for? I think you can consult the Google and find it - if not, and you have a 95, I can...

For the Love of Pete! Fire Hazard!

You know, it has a dent in it, but it's also been like that for a bit. I've never seen it glowing or anything...is there a way to test if it's working ok? Could that cause the temps to go high enough to start a fire?

For the Love of Pete! Fire Hazard!

So I went for a drive up to Gold Hill today, and on my way back began to see smoke coming from the passenger side floor, then suddenly it was rolling out of the console area.....I prepared to pull over, grab the fire extinguisher, and try to save my Jeep from a flaming death... I pulled over...

    Transmission works great, until...

I've been having the exact same problem, but I can drive about 30 minutes before it happens. I was told that once the fluid gets warm and thinner, it's no longer grabbing on the clutches like it should and they just won't engage. I don't know much about Auto Transmissions, but it sounded like it...

    98 Stalling Constantly.

You should have fuel pressure of around 40lbs if I'm not mistaken, and it can be tested at the rail with a fuel pressure gauge. When you go to start it in the morning, does it crank a bit and then fire, or just fire right up? My Fuel pump is getting old and to build up enough pressure I have to...

DD just dies for no reason

Dude I'm willing to wager 100 to 1 that it's your Crankshaft Position Sensor, about $45. Good luck.

    AW4 Swap Q's (Searched)

Lawson, thanks for the tips. Good stuff. For the front seal on the tranny, does the torque converter have to come off to do that? ANything else? Also, here's my plan of attack for removal, and if anyone can give input I'd really appreciate it: 1 - Remove driveshafts, drain trans 2 - loosen...

    AW4 Swap Q's (Searched)

Hey NAXJA homies, I'm swapping a good AW4 Trans (from a '95) for my broke AW4 on my 1995 XJ. I'm with-it mechanically, but would like to know what seals or sensors or anything else I should replace while I've got all this junk apart and am doing the tranny swap. At this point I'm thinking...

    WTB AW4 Transmission/TC

Hey guys, looks like my trans bought the farm. I'm looking for a cheap AW4 to swap out with the dead one, as I can't afford the cost of a remanufactured unit. Ideally one with lower miles and from a newer model, but let me know what you've got. I have a '95, 4.0, 4wd XJ. Thanks, Travis -...
