Many have gone to cutting out the rockers and installing 2x 1/4' wall tube search rocker replacement and there are tons of threads about it

.40 in the correct caliber has nearly the stopping power of .45 but much easier to keep on target. Try to keep a 3.5" barrel .45 auto on a target for more than 1 shot. its easy with the .40

They can be fine for trail and street use. I have helped design one but never saw it built. but there is no reason that it will not be as stable as any good 3 or 4 link.
