    1987 4.0 oil pressure problem

1987 4.0 Renix, pulled into the garage 8 months ago with a seized AC compressor and alternator after sitting for a while. Had good oil pressure at that time. Did the repairs and started it to pull out of the garage and have no oil pressure, no oil at the rockers, like it lost prime. Is this...

Rough idle & CEL with no codes?

I'm somewhat dealing with the same thing. In my case engine was replaced 11 months ago. No codes and feels like a miss. Following along to see if any of your responses might shed light on mine.

    2000 XJ wipers

Yup, all fuses are fine. I've been living with this "problem" for a couple of years. It's more of an annoyance than anything else. I just couldn't get a straight answer from the dealer as to whether it's the switch or the motor. Looks like the switch is it.

    2000 XJ wipers

My 2000 XJ has a problem with the intermittent wipers and wipers parking. Intermittent run constantly like low speed. When I turn off the wipers they stop where they are and don't park. I have been told there is anintermittent module that's not available anymore, however the dealer says there's...

    1987 XJ running problem

Here's my followup, Cruiser54, thanks. Traced the ground from TPS back to the crimp of 3 brown with white wires to 1 wire that goes to the bulkhead connector. Connection was clean but intermittent loss of ground. I soldered the connection and re-taped it. The only other connection I found like...

    1987 XJ running problem

Blu3fan, I have a problem with too much fuel. Grounds were cleaned twice. Fuel pump and sender were replaced last year due to the bulkhead where it's held in the tank rotted out around the fuel lines. Spark was checked and it will run on residual fuel pressure after sitting for a day with the...

CJR, I'll give that a try, sort of makes sense.

    1987 XJ running problem

CJR, relay has been changed as I thought it was a no fuel problem, it actually floods out. Let it sit for a day without the relay in and it starts with the residual fuel pressure. Put the relay back in and try to start and it sputters and it floods out. Cruiser54, I have been on the site. Map...

    1987 XJ running problem

I am having a start and run problem. I started it and moved it to work on the body and it ran fine. Went to start it 6 hours later and it won't run. It was flooding out. Pulled out the fuel pump relay, let it sit for 2 days and it starts right up until it runs out of fuel pressure. Put the relay...

    Transfer case mount bolts

It was the 7/16-14 bolts. Threaded them in and one tightened right up, the other was just about tight on and found out it is stripped. Picked up a Heli-coil kit and have to drop the cross member and drill the stripped one out. On a side note, I have had a nasty vibration for about 6 months which...

    Transfer case mount bolts

1987 XJ, I just found that both bolts that hold the transfer case to the trans mount are missing. Anyone out there know what size these bolts are? They are the ones screwed into the transfer case. Thanks

    4.0 won't run

1987 XJ 4.0, automatic transmission, 350,000 miles. I have a problem where I got towed off the NY Thruway due to a fuel pump problem, the fuel pump was noisy and I couldn't hear it running anymore. Replaced pump and sender and it started and ran for approximately 5 minutes. Went to take it for a...

    Seats?

Put a set of 2000 XJ seats in my 87. I bent the mounting brackets down and bolted them to a piece of angle iron bolted to the stock floor mounting holes on the front of the seat. I drilled new holes at the rear tabs and bolted them to the floor with heavy fender washers. Later seats are more...

    87 XJ headlight switch connector

Green Mesa I am going to try what you did. I thought it looked similar other than the extra wires. Thanks

    87 XJ headlight switch connector

I re-checked Rock Auto, 92 up are available. 91 down use a Standard DS220 switch. Might be able to adapt 92 up by cutting one terminal off. Trying not to do individual or bone yard if possible. Has anybody tried using the 92 connector?

    87 XJ headlight switch connector

I have a delema, the headlight switch in my 87 XJ burned up internally to the point of burning the contacts loose in the switch. This caused the connector to melt and burn to the point of it is wide open in the middle of the connector and half of the wire terminals are melted loose. Wires...

Help with why gas-gauge is not working?

Also could be a broken wire somewhere between the sender and gauge, you can check by disconnecting the sender wire from tank and jumping to ground. Could also be a bad ground.

    Heat shield options

You're still going to have to pull the exhaust parts away from the floor. The exhaust will still heat the floor without space between them. Then the heat shield will be efective in dissipating heat from heating the floor.

Accidently Bought an XJ and MJ

Personally I would build the XJ for off road. Take the parts you take off the XJ and put them on the MJ for a mild 4x4 daily driver. Just build the Xj for offroad and on so you don't have to trailer
