Did you ever figure out what was causing the airbag light to come on? I have the exact same issue after replacing the key cylinder lock. I had to rip out the plastic under the steering column and I wonder if I damaged the wiring.

Thanks! I hate checking wires, but you were right. I traced the wiring into the engine bay and discovered that the end of the fuel rail had cut into a bundle of wires and was shorting out one of the speed sensor wires. It's working now.
My Speedometer stopped working after replacing the exhaust manifold. Could this be related to the electrical connectors or vacuum lines I had to disconnect while removing the manifolds? Or, is it just a coincidence?
After doing some research, I replaced the vehicle speed sensor. Still not...
I think I found the problem. The driver side motor mount is shot. Sorry about the lack of information. Thanks for the replies. I focused so much on the transmission that I did not think that it had anything to do with the engine. It has an automatic transmission and I use ATF III.
I have a 97 XJ 4.0. It makes a low grinding or rubbing noise as I accelerate from a complete stop. It does not happen every time, but it does happen more often and gets worse when I pull a jeep trailer. I've been pulling the trailer a lot for the last two days. Today it seems to have gotten...

In the last week I've changed out the water pump, t-stat and radiator. I then drove about 4 hrs over a moutain road very slowly. It ran very hot and I'm guessing that the transmission got pretty hot also and that may be why I got this code.
My 97 XJ 4.0 has trouble code 24 (Check TPS sensor and wiring).
So I checked the TPS.
B to C gave me .775 and 3.69 at WOT.
A to B gave me 4.37 and 1.49 at WOT.
I checked both sides because Ecomike recomended to do this in the "I'm at the end of my rope" thread.
So... B to C is a good...
I had the same problem going over sardine pass. My alternater went out as I was passing Mantua. It would run but would not go up the canyon. I had to jump the fence and use the phone at the nearest house on the north end of Mantua. Good luck!
