I'm back, tightened up the belt last night (it was quite loose and still is'nt that tight, but the adjuster on the ps pump is all the way out). My friend came over tonight to drop me off and give me a jump, still no luck. Sounds like i'm going to be taking it off again. But before I do, do...
Thanks for the info on the splashguard, i figured the stealership would want some outragous green for it so I'll have to look into that. As far as tension, i believe when i installed it last i did the 90* check and got about that, but im not positive. Ill have to check on it all tomarrow, i've...
sorry, my bad - 89 xj 4.0 4wd dana 35 np231. I'm leaving approx. 1" of flex to the belt. Im guessing its the mud seeings how the original and all of them expired shortly after getting caked in mud

I do believe this is a 100amp alternator. But of course, when I bought the heep the plastic "engine guard" or whatever its called, was not there (probably some jacka$$ at a lube shop never reinstalled it). Anybody have an extra one? My best guess is that the mud is causing this especially...
Holy crap! Tonight I just burnt up my 4th alternator in the 3,000 miles I've owned my heep. I sure am glad that i'll be replacing this one and the last one at autozones expence (the lifetime warranty was definitely worth the $5 difference). I guess I do have a question, do you think that mud...
I was about to trim my tailpipe in class at Universal Technical Institue when my instructor told me not too because the gases and condesation from the exhaust building up under the floorpan will soon rust out the floor pan and you'll have a nice rust hole. I wouldn't suggest cutting it and...
Thanks for the replys thus far! Does anybody know if Rusty's shocks require the bar pin eliminators? Also, is it unusual or typical to get vibes from just a 3 in lift? Any other recommendations on other parts that are strongly encouraged to be bought and installed with the lift? Thanks.

Whats the advantage with using the bar pin eliminators? Is the adjustable track bar necessary in order to acquire a proper alignment or does it help prevent bumpsteer or what? Any other suggestions on anything else I would NEED to buy to get it rolling after installing the parts I listed...
To start off, 89 XJ 4.0 auto NP231 dana 30 & 35 171k. Bought my heep in february and was waiting to sell my honda to get the money to lift it (I'm going to school at Universal Technical Institute in Houston for Collision Repair). Finally sold the honda and am ready to buy my lift. Was...
Somebody please help me. Friday night when I was wheelin, I threw my serpentine belt in turn overheating my heep. I then had to be pulled home by my friends chev :( Anyways, I bought the new belt, have it all routed correctly but cannot get it around the ps pulley. I have loosened the...
Hey everyone. Got all the parts, took off the extension housing, now assembling. The old seal was definitely worn, or gone. After much forced pounding and prying, I finally got it out. Now that I have about 5 larger pieces of the housing that broke off where the seal goes, do you think I...
Any more help overnight would be greatly appreciated. I'll be back around 2 tomarrow after I get out of school at UTI, go to mak haik (stealership) and go to autozone for RTV. Thanks again for all the help!

also, is dextron III correct for an '89 n.p.231 or should I be running dextron II or something else. Any experience with lucas tranny fluid in the transfrer case....results?
I dont think there was any play its just that it was literally spraying atf all over the underside of my heep. From what I've read on previous threads (that's right, I did a search), the seal doesnt actually seal anything it just prevents dirt and water from getting in but doesnt actually help...
Do you mean bushing or bearing. If there is a bearing in there as well as a bushing, do I need to replace that as well? Is the speedo gear on the tailpiece, i'm not sure but I dont think it is? Can I get away with just black RTV or should I purchase a gasket too? Thanks for the help.

Hey everyone. I am the proud owner of an '89 XJ 4.0L 4X4 AW-4 with a N.P. 231. Noticed the other day that my transfer case was bone dry so I filled her up with dextron III (I hope thats the correct fluid, last owner lost the owners manual and haynes doesn't specify). After takin it out for a...
