I have read how high clearance skidplates on TJs can cause drivetrain issues because there is too much angularity. First, is it true for XJ's ? How does this happen? Is it because a high clearance skidplate raises the T/C ???

I'm shopping now for an XJ and my question is this: Is it worth spending a little more for an '00 or '01 to get the low emission engine. I've read the improvements were good, adding a few H.P., better intake, etc. I just don't want to pass on a good '99 if there's no significant benefit...

Does anyone know from actually weighing their XJ, what the true weight is? I'm planning to tow my XJ on long trips with a motorhome, and need to know whether buying a 2dr over my preferred 4dr would be much of a benefit.

WHY does the factory publish a tow rating of 2000 lbs for the '00 XJ and 5000 lbs for the '01? Aren't they basically IDENTICAL?? I'm asking because I do want to tow, but also, to find out if the '01 had lower gears, beefier rear diff, etc.? :cool:

Anybody tell me tallest tire you've been able to fit on a stock XJ? I'm planning my build on a 2000 4dr 4x4, but plan to initially run the tallest tire I can cram onto stock or aftermarket wheels, until I'm ready to do the mods I ultimately want. thanks! :geek:

can anyone recommend a few decent shops, preferably in Orange County, to take on XJ mod work, like a lift, gears, lockers, more? I know 4 wheel parts supply, and there's shops specializing in poser 4x4's, but I'd like a shop that comes recommended. anybody know jeepsrus?

Have been trying to decide on shocks for my XJ project, and Bilstein 7100's are my favorites so far, with or without reservoirs. Rebuildable which is cool. The new Platinum shock of Skyjacker look very stout, does anyone have any comments on them? www.biggas.com I'm doing a 3.5" RE kit.

I'm asking the pros here, what do I need to run sand dunes without too many issues, like getting stuck every 5 minutes? I'm guessing: 31x10 rear paddles, 31x8 desert traks on front, 4:11 or lower gearing, lockers, and more power via supercharger?

Edelbrock and Bilstein each make reservoir shocks to fit an XJ with 3 to 4" of lift. Rubicon does too, though they look like Bilstein provides these. Anybody have the experience to say if there's significant difference in ride, specifically, at speed over whoops, rough roads, etc.?
