Hey guys, Just finished putting in the new front axle u-joints, a very simple procedure thanks to all of you and the multiple write up links that I consulted. Many thanks. Here's my Q though: 89 xj, 4.0, auto...all the standard stuff...I've now replaced my track bar and both axle u joints but...

    runs bumpy, smell gas

ok, 89' xj, new remanned motor. I've put about 1k on this engine since I put it in, and it's never really ran right. When I first got er running it was acting really tight, so I babied it in the hopes that the rings would seat and she'd loosen up and run a little smoother. Nope. Now I'm smelling...

    timing cover seal

hey guys! in my seemingly never ending build of my 4.0 I've encountered yet another little headscratcher. I installed the timing cover seal when I had the engine out of the truck...and I assumed that I had right, until I had to rotate the crank yesterday to find the TDC. It started out that it...

    indexing the dist?

89' xj, re-manned 4.0 block out of a 94, renix head. I finally got this mother stuffed in the bay, plumbed and wired. All is going well until I try to start it. It turns, I smell gas but after about 10 minutes of crank I'm running low on battery and wondering if I indexed the distributor...

ok, just wondering...have you guys ever heard of anyone putting an air vent on the high side of thier coolant system to eliminate bubbles in the system? I broke every rule...

Yes kids, I get the dumbass award. My 89' xj has been sitting in my shop, motor gutted, parts strewn about, unidentified bolts, nuts, sensors and bracketry everywhere for about 6 months now. I purchased a rebuilt 4.0 to replace my original, and I have quite a few new parts...but I cannot for the...

    Timing Cover Oil Seal

So, I'm sprucing up my tins to re-install on the new 4.0 I just got for my 89 xj. Everything is going great, until I try to remove the little seal on my timing cover. This thing is so corroded, so baked on, so FUBAR that it's gonna take machinery to get the surface clean of this seal! You guys...

    Precisionengine.com?

Okeey dokeey...I'm in the market for a new 4.0 for the 89' xj and I'm trying to do my homework here. Rebuilding my block is a damned spendy venture around here ( like $2,500 ) and I've been looking around online at some of these engine builders and the price difference is around $1,000...
