    Durango Steering Mod

The parts store where i purchased both gears (Lordco), didn't list the plow as an option and said there was only one choice #277588. i tracked down the plow option part # 277580 (98 only) and had them bring it in. The parts i tested were A1-Cardone. If you use part# 277580 (plow) you "should"...

    Durango Steering Mod

Well as far as i'm concerned it is. if you buy a reman using the part # 277580 you will get the plow option with the benefits i mentioned. if you buy the reman using part# 277588, you will get the non-plow with the bad turning radius and less power. plain and simple. after buying and trying both...

    Durango Steering Mod

No , it was fine, just felt the same as the old xj box, no worse, no better. The amount of turns from lock to lock on the non-plow is 2 15/16, and for the Plow it is 3 3/8. the throw is definitely greater on the plow box. it never made sense why the nonplow would be the recommended one. seems if...

    Durango Steering Mod

Mystery Solved!!! I swapped out the Durango box without the snowplow option for the one WITH the snowplow option...WOW! Turning radius is back AND i can turn the 35" MT/R Kevlar's mounted on 15x10 steelies with one finger! Feels like i'm running 25" tires! Amazing! Part#277580 No need to do...

    REPLACE TILT/AIRBAG STEERING WHEEL

When i swapped mine out the only available hub was the LeCarra i mentioned in the above post. there was no way the clockspring would be able to stay in there. My horn is now a button on the side just below the turn signal stock. Simple to wire up. i can give you all the pics and wiring steps...

    Durango Steering Mod

I went with the NON plow option and will need to remove the spacer and tabs to get my turning radius back. Just trying to determine what the difference is on the plow optioned box. I've "heard" through the grapevine that it is tapped for hydro lines, but don't take that as gospel. whether or not...

    Durango Steering Mod

Did the snow plow option give you 3.5 or 3 turns lock to lock? I have the "non-plow" option and i need to do the mod as my turning radius is pathetic at the moment. if the "snow-plow" option gives me the full turning radius, then i'll just exchange the box for the other and bypass the teardown...

    REPLACE TILT/AIRBAG STEERING WHEEL

I swapped my wheel out my 96 with a LeCarra wheel and hub. http://www.lecarra.com/domestic-hubs.shtml The only issue i had was i had to omit the clockspring, which means i now have to self-cancel the turn signals, which i don't mind. Other than that, it's great! HTH -B

Is my locker breaking my axles?

I think you will have much better luck with 95+ shafts which will give you the bigger u-joint. I don't think the locker will be a problem then, but yes the locker definitely will increase your chances of breakage. With a good 760x joint (spicer), you should be ok. -B

Is my locker breaking my axles?

Looks like the u-joint is fine, the outer shaft ear looks toast though...grab some 95+shafts or spring for alloys. I'd be more concerned with the 35. -B

    Long arms with frame stiffeners

I think that all you would need to do, would be to drill the holes out in the frame stiffeners where the crossmember bolts to the frame. Do this before you attach them to the frame, then burn 'em in. You could then attach the crossmember with no trouble at all. Real easy, or did i interpret your...

    Narrowed 9" Ford Question

My 9" doesn't have a drain plug, only some had drain plugs. You can delete it or put it in after you finish plating. Personally i'd like a drain plug as removing that center section just to change the fluid kinda blows. -B

Agressive A/T tire for under $150/tire?

Re: Wrangler Duratrac vs Cooper Discoverer S/T LT I've had the Coop's and they are an awesome tire. I had them in the 31x10.50 flavour. 2 friends ran 'em too and loved 'em. You won't be disappointed. No experience with the Duratracs, but they look like they would be great as well. Either way i...

    Autolocker question

Not much snow at all except at high elevation. I live oceanside in the Parksville area. The problem lies when travelling the mountain passes and the twisties with freezing rain and whatnot. I prefer having the open front in those instances. If there was more snow and less rain i'd run a locked...

    Autolocker question

I ran a locked front in Manitoba which is flat as a board and wasn't a problem. British Columbia is a totally different enviro. I take my front locker out in the winter and run open. Too many twisties in the mountains. Even for the wheeling you mentioned you don't need a locked front. Since you...
