1988 Xj: Cooling Hoses & Modification Options? Recall 5-90's conversion?

See Post #17 in this thread that 5-90 participated in: https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1100692&page=2 He describes the sweated copper conversion in writing but no pictures. I have yet to find the post(s) he made that show the end result. I'll keep searching...

'88 Xj: Need IAC Motor O-ring Dimensions

Glad you responded. No, I did not measure it yet. I will but I did not want to trust my measurements. I plan to take the throttle body, the IAC and the current o-ring to the hardware store shortly. I called Standard Motor Products (AC12) but they do not have the dimensions.

'88 Xj: Need IAC Motor O-ring Dimensions

To the best of my knowledge you get the o-ring when you purchase a new IAC motor. My motor is fine and I just cleaned it and the complete throttle body. I prefer to replace the o-ring but it may also be a proprietary size. Does anyone here know the dimensions of this o-ring?

98 XJ brake line help needed

The complete vehicle kits you have been referred to are certainly convenient. I will also add that it you should ask Inline Tube what grade of stainless they use. It is common for the aftermarket to use 409 in exhausts. While better than mild steel 409 will still rust.

How To Transfer D35 Shock Mount Brackets to C8.25?

Done. Not pleasant but if I were smarter...the D35 brackets would have been removed sooner. Once I cut away what I thought to be a sufficient amount of material at the welds (outside of the brackets) I began using a mason's hammer in an inverted manner striking the face w/3 lb and 5 lb hand...

How To Transfer D35 Shock Mount Brackets to C8.25?

They are certainly much heavier than the J5859. My concern with using either of these is how to determine if they require new rear shocks...without putting my rear suspension back together. JKS discusses mounting details of the OGS922 in their installation instructions for the adjustable...

How To Transfer D35 Shock Mount Brackets to C8.25?

The JKS OGS922 and Zone Offroad J5859 are better options.

I do not care for the stud replacement kits.

How To Transfer D35 Shock Mount Brackets to C8.25?

I accidentally broke the threaded segment of the shock mounting stud off one of my C8.25 shock mounts. My primary concern is how to ensure the D35 brackets are properly located before welding them on the C8.25 tube. I am going out to take measurements now and remove the D35 brackets. My guess...

What are rear axle shock stud repair options?

Jim Malcom - Not too late. I have not repaired my axle yet. I have decided I do not care for the RE 2051 kit. The additional offset the hex flats give the lower shock mount bother me. RE explained their is sufficient flex in the upper shock mount to accommodate for this but this is not...

Suspension Basics: Torque Distribution & Leaf Spring Strength

lazyxj - Thanks for responding. I got too busy working on my other car and forgot my need to understand this issue for future reference. I have a sufficient quantity of spare leaf packs to assemble some of my own so I decided to do this instead of completing my OME suspension by ordering their...

What are rear axle shock stud repair options?

RCP Phx & Tim_MN - Thanks for the responses. They let me know I am on a good path for repair. I only have tig but I should be able to have someone with a plasma cutter take the brackets of my D35 axles for future use.

What are rear axle shock stud repair options?

I accidentally severed the threads from the rear axle shoulder bolt the shock mounts to when removing the nut/washer recently. My first thought was to saw of the remains of the shoulder bolt on the front side of the axle bracket, mark the center and drill out rest of the bolt then grind off...

Suspension Basics: Torque Distribution & Leaf Spring Strength

I forgot and need someone to remind me! If I have one leaf pack that is slightly taller/stronger it should be placed on a specific side of the vehicle. This is the same idea with leaf packs from a lift kit being marked "+" and "-". I was told this some time ago and have since forgotten. I...

    Any good leaf spring bushings?

Yes, Clevite would be best but how do you identify these? It appears Tenneco purchased Clevite but this does not offer us much in the way of useful information. I think there are two factors with these bushings: 1 - Quality of the elastomer. 2 - Thickness of the metal surrounding the...

1988 Xj: EGR Vacuum Switch/Solenoid Options?

Mine is currently working but, is in a very old vehicle. The OEM part number is 33002298. I find them on ebay for $70 and Amazon for $90. Surprisingly, I could not find one on Rock Auto. What are people doing when this solenoid acts up and needs to be replaced?

1988 Xj: Cooling Hoses & Modification Options? Recall 5-90's conversion?

I still have the OEM closed system. I am replacing everything today as a result of a leak from the upper hose at the heater core. I examine the heater core fitting carefully and it is know to be fine. The only hoses available locally are Dayco with the one exception of the reservoir to the...

replacing frost plug - technique? any good writeups anywhere?

From what I have heard removing the manifolds from these 6 cylinder heads often leads to the discovery of non-planar surfaces requiring machining to correct flatness for any hope of proper sealing after they are installed. I do not know how correct this is. I would think that if an engine is...

1988 Xj - Starts, high engine speed flare then, engine dies.

Progress...(2) starts and a test drive. The additional fuel pump ground made this happen. I do not have an image hosting service so, I cannot attach the photo. Far better than any undercarriage location.
