    Spun Main Bearing Advice

Hi all, haven't been on in a while. My last big project was a rebuilt 4.0 for my '88 Laredo, and one or two of you were working on the same thing at the same time. Got to share in some good advice back then. Now it's been almost a year, the rebuild is humming along just fine. Thought I'd finally...

    Valve Stem Seals

My rebuild kit has two packages of valve stem seals. The one set has gold bands around the rubber, the other set is silver. There are no markings such as "IN or EX" like the ones I will be removing. Does anyone know if the bands are the indicator? They all seem to be identical in evey dimension...

    4.0 Timing Question

Half way through rebuilding a '90 4.0. Crank and cam are installed as well as a new timing set. Now, I have the two timing marks on the sprockets pointing towards each other in a straight line through the center of both shafts. Number one piston is at TDC. So far, so good. Only problem is in...

    Oil Slinger Question

Putting my '90 4.0l back together, I noticed the oil slinger has a keyway cutout, but the key for the timing gear does not protrude enough for the slinger to use it. I double checked on my old crank as well. And, of course the key for the H-B is too far forward. So my question, is the slinger...

    Camshaft Thrust Pin & Spring

Does anyone know if there is a spec for the thrust pin in the cam sprocket bolt? Cleaned up what I have, and the spring feels healthy, pin shows just a little wear on the tip. The pin extends about 1/8 inch from the top of the bolt head. Thanks!

    Hole Behind Timing Sprocket

Tearing down a '90 4.0 for a rebuild, I pulled the timing set and noticed a rough opening in the block casting at the top of the area behind the cam sprocket. It appears to have been cast there, but the rough shape had me concerned. It's about an inch and a quarter by 3/8ths, just inside the...

    Stuck Ignition Switch

Hi all, I posted this yesterday as a reply to an older thread, but I think it would be of more use as a new thread of it's own. Hope this helps someone: Well, it finally got me. I had already purchased a new switch after my last post, thinking I would replace it at my leisure. My son went out...

    Plug Connections

My '88 Laredo 4.0 Auto with 115k had been giving intermittant problems since I purchased it a couple of years ago. All the usuals, bucking, stalling, wierd shifting etc., mixed with some good performance days. Also checked, replaced, adjusted all the usuals, so I won't bore with all the details...
