    Broken battery tray stud

I'm in the middle of replacing the battery on my '90 and the battery tray broke when removing the hold down bracket as the nuts were rusted and frozen. I've already ordered a replacement tray and hold down but in removing the broken tray, I sheared off one of the studs as those were also rusted...

    1990 electircal issues.

When you say "test it" what "it" are you referring to the grounding screw? I'm not looking for a silver bullet, just the most likely place to start troubleshooting. If a fix has worked for others on this forum then I'm starting with the odds it will also work for me. I'm just trying to tap...

    1990 electircal issues.

My '90 just started doing a similar thing. Starts up at about 13V and drops down into the red zone the longer I drive. battery seems to be doing fine though as it starts fine. Were you guys able to nail down the cause of this? I don't want to chase electrical demons through the engine...

    Buying a XJ tonight

Make sure you take a close look at your pos battery cable. My 90 threw me for a loop once when all the electronics worked but it wouldn't crank. Thought it was the starter when all it was was internal corrosion in the cable terminal. Built up enough resistance to not power a startup but the...

In line rad hose filler cap question

I sent an email to Moroso , I'll see what they respond with. maybe I'll try to contact Stant since they make the rad caps. Right now I'm leaning towards Winterbeater's post based on the following. I also suspected that the cap wasn't fitting to seal so I smeared some lithium grease on the...

In line rad hose filler cap question

I haven't pulled the plastic football yet so I'm filling ol' school style. Once I finish the flushing I was going to pull the football and install an overflow tank. The rad cap I'm using is supposed to fit later year XJ and it seems to fit. If I fire up the engine the coolant comes out...

In line rad hose filler cap question

So I'm in the middle of converting my 90 to an open system. Installed the Morroso inline filler but haven't hooked up the overflow line yet. After flushing the system and then refilling it, the overflow line is letting water out. No, the hose is not hot or under pressure I'm just filling up...

    Ordering a CSF radiator

So I get an email from Radiator barn , the CSF 3 row is not in stock and they don't know when they will get more although they are on order, they also are out of stock on the two row. Maybe I'll need to convert to the new open radiator or keep my fingers crossed and get a plastic tanked unit

    Ordering a CSF radiator

thanks for all your inputs, Mesh you are on it! Yeah it's a 90 and I'm keeping the closed system but will be adding the in-line filler and getting rid of my leaking plastic football. I considered doing the full conversion but i didn't want to mess with the temp sensor . I ended up making an...

    Ordering a CSF radiator

Wanted to give you all a heads up on trying to find a CSF 2572 three row. I've gone through two online parts houses (Auto Parts Warehouse & Auto Parts Deal) and both of them showed the part in stock when doing the ordering. APW processed the order and then I get an email about four days later...

Fuel Pump (questions about what i have found via search)

The stalling and rough idle etc. sound like how my '90 was when the original fuel pump died on it last year. It had been making high pitched whining noises off and on for about a year or two so it was expected. My mechanic was not able to find a replacement pump from his supplier and he...

need rad help (jobber rads nor cutting it)

I'm about to order a CSF#2572 to drop into my '90. Did you have any issues on fit with the thicker core? I was also going to install the in-line filler on the rad hose and get rid of my (now leaking again) plastic tank. Let us know how the install went for you.

    Headliner adhesive recommendations?

I replaced my '90 headliner last year and i would recommend trying to seal the liner board before spraying on the adhesive. When I sprayed the 3M onto it the board acted like a sponge and soaked up a lot of the spray, hence it wasn't tacky enough to adhere the cloth. i ended up using more...

    Catalytic Converter brands

I guess my thanks were premature since not responses. I couldn't wait any longer so I had a Magnaflow/Car Sound universal cat replacement installed. I passed the smog test with flying colors now so I'm good for at least two years. I'll try to remember to update this post when I smog test...

    Catalytic Converter brands

My 19 year old (260K miles) catalytic converter looks like it needs to be replaced finally since I can't pass the smog test. I realize that you should expect what you pay for but are there any cat brands out there that I should stay away from and alos are there brands that I shoudl be happy...

    power steering pump/pulley help needed

I've got a '90 and replaced my leaking pump recently. I don't remember needing to use the holes in the pulley to bolt/unbolt the pump. I also ended up cracking the original plastic pulley so I bought what looks to be the same solid aluminum pulley from NAPA. I used the puller and removed the...

    Front washer switch/combo switch.......

So I did some part searches and it looks like the stalk arm is basically only a keyed metal rod that activates the switch in the steering column. I think that the switch assembly in the column will need to be replaced. No easy fix here. Anybody out there to confirm this?

    Front washer switch/combo switch.......

I've had the same issue for years, washer fluid squirts but the wipers won't automatically come on. Have to squirt then turn on the wipers. Now yesterday my wipers won't turn off until I find the "sweet" spot on the 'stalk switch'. Can you just pull the stalk off the switch assembly that is...

Rear shoulder seat belt torque spec

I'm guessing by the weird little marks on the head of the bolt that look like easy location marks you are supposed to tighten it to a specified ft lb and then another 1/4 or 1/2 turn. I don't think that they need to be really tight since they weren't knuckle busters to remove.

Rear shoulder seat belt torque spec

I replaced my headliner material (less than stellar results, I could start another thread about that, ) and now I need to reattach the seat belt anchors along the roof line. Couldn't find a post anywhere on what I should torque those large torx bolts to? Does anybody know? Thanks.
