4.0 runs good, new lifters valve cover and head gasket. 5sp trans. 231 t-case nice straight body no rust anywhere 4dr. good glass, alum wheels. laredo pkg. needs rear main seal, I have a new oil pan and rear main. I have taken the oil pan and bearing cap off but can not get the top half out...

so if im reading this correctly my new one piece seal will replace that part of the seal on the bearing cap. now I gotta go hammer that seal out. thanks

just dug into the 4.0 to change the pouring rear main. what is that seal called on the outer part of the bearing cap? it sits on the OD of the cap same side as the rear main seal. should i replace it? what is it called? oh BTW had to go to harbor freight to buy a brass punch today, gonna turn...

I know this is an old post but as I was "searching" I had to ask. 87 D30 disco. what are the drawbacks to welding it up? as long as I keep the disco. stock. gonna run 32's or 33's. not a hard core xj, just our hunting rig to take to the mtns.

were they hitting before you installed new ones? where are they hitting the cover? top - side l ? is it making a noise or have you removed the cover and seen evidence of the hitting?

find you an aluminum tank on ebay. i found one for less than 20 bucks, it has a real radiator cap with overflow tube. 87 xj runs about 190-200 in this 100 degree temps.

how do you know the alternator is overheating? is it failing in some way? clean the connector on the fan motor wiring.

I bought an aluminum recovery tank on ebay for 11.00 and some change. has 2 inlets and a radiator cap. pulled the old bracket and bottle, put 2 sheet metal screws to mount it and love it.

FWIW I did replace all my cables as well as the starter cable with welding cable w/copper ends soldered on. new battery as well.

Dixie is great, hot humid summers, mild winters. Fishing & hunting is great. Can't help you with good schools in the b'ham area but I bet if you chat with some of the folks on www.al.com they can help you out or just talk with some realtors.
