Cooling your engine down with fans

If the engine turns over slower when it’s hot your starter might be going bad.

possibly Looking at/for an XJ 2dr or 4dr

Unless you love doing body work get one with as little rust as possible. When we bought our current XJ we opted for higher mileage (218k) and an almost rust free body. Other than a high idle switch and different gauge cluster I don’t think the police package gets you much in an XJ. I’ve had/have...

Quality Leaf Springs, OEM ride height & worthy of towing??

My son’s ‘97 XJ has a 2” spacer/shackle/bastard pack lift. I’m not necessarily advocating for spacers and shackles, but a 2” lift with 30” tires is very streetable IMHO. We’ve taken it on several 3 hour plus trips and it still gets 18 mpg with a 5-speed, 3.08 gears and heavy steel wheels. We...

Quality Leaf Springs, OEM ride height & worthy of towing??

The heavy duty ones are what I got. If I needed springs for a stock XJ I wouldn’t hesitate to get them again.

Quality Leaf Springs, OEM ride height & worthy of towing??

Way back when I bought a set of Crown springs for my ‘96. I was happy with them. I towed some too and didn’t have any issues.

How Much is my XJ worth?

Something to keep in mind with these 401k loans, the money you’re paying 4.5% interest on could have been earning 10%+ if left alone.

    Rubber Mat/Carpet

A lot of those vinyl floors still have padding underneath. That’s no problem for spilling stuff or mud, but can still be an issue if you swamp it in a mud hole.

    3.5 inch lift

No matter how much prep and PB Blasting you do, I’d have a plan b for work Monday morning. There’s always that one thing you weren’t expecting. Good luck, XJs are a ton of fun.

    2001 locker question

In normal driving you won’t notice a front autolocker in 2wd. I have an Aussie that’s been in two Jeeps and three axles. I’ve been told the no-slip is the quietest.

    Oil Pan Removal, Lifted Jeep

The Jeep being lifted wouldn’t keep you from needing to remove the exhaust. Not sure about raising the motor. When I did the oils pan on my 4.0 TJ I had to remove the down pipe but didn’t have to raise the motor.

    98 XJ Build

Unless there’s other evidence, a strong running XJ with 200k miles does not necessarily equate to a past engine swap.

2k XJ w/270 miles, shud I upgrade it?

Rust free XJs are getting tough to come by. If you plan to keep it put another motor in it if necessary. When we bought the one my son drives I was more concerned with rust than miles. Found one with 218k with no rust. I figure if I get another 100k out of it, great. If not I’ll find a used 4.0...

    2000 XJ Unknown Connector

Looks like the connector to cruise control actuator which I’m pretty sure is on the passenger side in an XJ. Even if you don’t have cruise control the wiring could still be there.

    Problem w/ intermittent defrost a/c

That could be the blend door also if it’s not closing all the way. Could also be low on Freon. Did it get colder when you were moving?
